writing letters to people in jail safe?

A buddy's buddy is going to jail for a year for growing 100 plants (only seedlings). Would it be safe for my buddy to write this person if he has grows going on at the address where the mail would go?
I would have to say no, its not safe.
But I wanted another opinion because the two are GOOD friends.
He says they read the mail, so of course you have to watch your mouth, but if you say nothing wrong your cool.
that true?

They do not raid or investigate people for sending letters to jail.
Unless they say the wrong thing.

For me it sounds too close to something that might potentially get one busted.
Why not just open a P.O. box? It costs next to nothing.
Have mail sent to someone else in the area that you know?
I dunno. Seems innocuous enough, but having prison mail sent to a current grow-op house just sounds...I don't know, there's just something I don't like about it.

Your friend will be fine as long as he assumes the cops will read every letter he sends. There's plenty of upstanding citizens who have relatives in prison who visit and write all the time. There's no way they're going to launch an investigation or get a warrant based on a letter that doesn't contain anything criminal intent. Plus, prison guards are notoriously lazy as shit and couldn't give a fuck anyway.

thanks for the advice. that's very true about the guards, at least here.
the buddy decided just to visit and not write letters.

Tri high - I don't think you're allowed to bring people things. You are allowed to give people money, with which they may purchase things from the "jail store" or "commissary". These things are moderately to severely overpriced and the quality of the items is usually lacking (or it's off-brand shit).

just use a fake return address (such as an apartment building but no unit number) if you're that paranoid.
