Do You Ever Wonder

Maybe our sun is part of a constellation seen by beings on another planet. What else could be out there? When I look at the stars, I am filled with wonder beyond wonder. There are infinate possibilities in infinate areas of study; what we know about the universe cannot possibly come close to even a fraction of what there is to know. On a side note, for those astronomers in North America... what is the flashing blue "star" to the southeast, kind of low in the sky. I think it might be Venus, but I have also heard that Saturn is visible at night. Any ideas? PS: I love my physical location on this planet. I am an hour drive from the Rocky Mountains and can see a rather large assortment of stars despite being in the city.

The blue one low on the horizon I beleive is Venus, and the really bright one high it the night sky is Jupiter, you can usually see it until sunrise. Where abouts are you located?

I know the blue star your talking about, I've noticed it in the past year or so... Sometimes I think it also has a reddish flash to it.

Where, direction-wise, is Jupiter? I'll look for it tonight if you reply soon enough. I'm in Colorado... maybe the mile highness makes the stars easier to see.

You will know it's Jupiter, its high to the west and about the brightest thing in the sky besides the moon, you'll know too because it will not move along sky with the stars. I've been checking it out with my little refracter telescope I got for Christmas.

The one with the slight reddish flash is Venus. I'm looking at it right now.

i was just looking at that redish-blue one last night, trying to figure out if it was really a star or not... and i believe it's to the right of it that you'll find our good friend orion
(who was killed by my astrological constellation scorpius)

You know, I'm looking at a reddish star that I beleive to be Mars, cause on Jan.16 Mars and Venus will be 10? apart. it's just to the left of Orion, and up and to the right of Venus.

That makes sense... Venus being the goddess of love and everything, you would imagine she would have a little flare to her Adamist... cool, i clipped it out of something i was reading on the internet. it kept resonating in me so i grabbed it

what is the flashing blue "star" to the southeast, kind of low in the sky. I think it might be Venus, but I have also heard that Saturn is visible at night. Any ideas? Damn. I used to know. I know the one you mean, if it is the one that seems to be mostly blue, but has a bit of red flash every now and then. It is definitely not a planet -- planets shine steadily, they never flash and "twinkle". It's a double star -- a red giant/blue dwarf pair. This is driving me nuts! The name is right on the tip of my tongue. pinky

Yeah, that's the one I've seen... My friends all told me it must be a planet because it was so big, but I didn't think planets could flash that much.

"and remember, keep looking up!"- Jack Horkiemer if its evening the bright southeastern star is Saturn if its morning (same direction ) its jupiter.Holy Cow I could see Jupiter until nearly 7:30 yester morning, When the sun Rose! That flashing star I think is actually a star and not a planet, but I could be wrong.its cool cause it flashes. When I was a kid I used to think it was trying to tell me something...

"Maybe our sun is part of a constellation seen by beings on another planet."
That's one of the coolest things I've ever pondered, thanks.
