sometimes when I stare at my jars for long periods of time I see things. You may be seeing many shades of white, or even some pale yellows along with blues. I am talking about the actual mycelium not uncolonized parts. When this occurs it is usually due to conditions that the mycelium are happy with. This may be excess water, or dry spots in the substrate, high temperature, and so on. I have never personally had any blue contamination, but that shouldn't be any reason for you to assume they're o.k. You may just be looking too hard at the cakes. Do you have the holes taped, or untaped? How long have the jars been colonizing? How long have the blue spots been there? If you determine that the spots have only come near the end of the colonization process, and appear to be on the surface of the mycelium you are probably allright. This may just be the blueing of the actual mycelium and not contamination. When you birht the jars pay close attention to how the jars smell, and keep an eye out for any change in the size or behaviors of the blue parts.

The holes in the jars are not tapped. They have been colonizing for about 17 days now. The growth of the mycelium does not seem to have slowed down any. And, the blue color I see seems to be on the older mycelium. The mycelium that is moving around covering the bottom and such, has nothing, and looks like netting.
