Pint jars half full for brf?

Hello all. I have a ton of pint jars from wbs projects. Id like to try brf half pint cakes for the first time however, I dont want to have to buy half pint jars. Would it be ok to just fill pints half way or does the needle actually have to be in the brf to be as effective. Can I just squirt my GlC all over the top of the brf and let it soak into the substrate?

there's no protective layer, just polyfill on top. Would this pose a problem if I just squirted it on top?

Well, what you can do is do full 1 pint brf/verm cakes and after they have colonized, birth them and cut them in half and fruit them
Just make sure they sit for a week after they finish colonizing so the interior is fully colonized.

Yes im doing this now since i had some extra pints laying around. I leave the verm layer out and just squirt some lc on top then cover the holes with micro-pore tape. Works great!

they take a little longer to colonize but they will work fine. id fill them all the way up that way you run a less chance of them drying out.

Drying out? The dunk will take care of that if that even happens. Don't fill them all the way then they will take forever to colonize. I had to find out the hard way that pint brf cakes are a waste of time.

a full pt will take forever to colonize. and i was just saying if you only fil the jar half ways it could dry out while colonizing therfore halting colonization all together.

if you're only filling half the pt jar with sub that leaves the other half open and grounds for it to dry out in the time it will take to colonize.
