culture syringe from grain

I have a jar of rye 1/2 colonized, its my only jar thats colonizing so its pretty precious.
I have loads more jars that need inoculating and I'm debating whether or not to do a grain exchange or to try and make a culture syringe from a piece of colonized grain in the same manner that one would make a mycelium syringe from a slice of mycelium from a petri dish.
I have a few spores left but I have diluted the syringe to the point where I feel I would be adding excessive water to my jars just to get a single spore in... or maybe not.
I'm going to try inoculating with the spore syringe and see what happens, but failing that would I be able to make a mycelium syringe with colonized rye or should I just try adding colonized rye to each jar instead?
I also had another idea which i'm trying to put into motion. I made up some jars of bird seed out of those really small jars that you get dried herbs in. I want to wait for it to colonize then get a syringe full of sterile water, shoot it all into the colonized jar, give it a good shake and extract the water back into the syringe. It seems like a good method in theory, so I'll report back and see how that goes.
adios

yeah, that would make sense actually, especially considering its my only jar thats wanting to do anything.
I guess I'll be sorting out the woodlovers tonight then...

G2G, you don't need 100% for that plus it seems harder to screw up a G2G than an LC...
Make a grain lc when you got a few more jars

But why not do a GLC then when it regrows do g2g? Thats wat I would do in the situation

Only because I find it easier to screw up a glc than to screw up a g2g. And in this situation where it's your last chance before you have to buy more spores I would just prefer to take the safest route.

You really think so? You don't even have to work with any open jars to do a GLC.
In either case, I'd wait, if possible, for full colonization.

I have no idea what OP's experience is but in my experience it's a lot harder to contaminate a master grain jar than an LC. Plus if your jar gets contaminated you can generally tell.
But I like the fact that theres a whole network of strong myc already in the jar that can fend off some contaminants where as in the LC there isn't.

Yeah but a grain LC is just water and mycelium so there really is no way to get a contamination unless you introduce one by not flaming the needle or buy have an already contaminated grain jar.

Well, like I said it's just my opinion that g2g's are easier. If I was doing bulk with 40 or so jars I would do LC. For smaller scale cultivation though..I prefer G2G.

A smart cultivator IMO would do a grain jar take that to a grain LC then knock up 10 jars then use those 10 jars as masters and expand those 10 jars with G2G to 100 jars then once you use all those get your LC back out and make 10 more master jars.

A smart cultivator IMO would do g2g's with a colonised jar then when there is only 50% of the substrate left make a grain LC that way if your LC fails you have those other jars to fall back on, and since it's unlikely you will contaminate your grain transferring jar since colonized sub is very resistant to contaminations it's just an extra safe method IMO.

A GLC is a competely different animal from a standard sugar LC. With a sugar LC you are flying blind. You don't know if the culture is good until you try it out. With a GLC, you work from a healthy grain jar and make a myc slurry. You don't use it unless it looks like healthy mycelium. "Culture" in the case of GLC is probably even a misnomer. The only growing you do is in the originating grain jar. You grow healthy Myceleum, then strip it off into distilled water, which you can store in a sealed container for a far longer period than a sugar LC. Plus, like I said, you don't even need to open a jar in the whole process. It's actually less risky and far more productive than G2G in most situations.
