Post pinning lighting question.

Once the pins are set and they start growing, is there any point in me continuing to illuminate them with my expensive pin promoting blue fluorescent tube?
If the growing pins still need light to show them the way upward then would it make sense for me to use a lower power light source?
There's research for pin formation with the right light wavelengths but what about growth?

Fluorescent lights are not expensive. Yes it is important. No one knows right now how mushrooms use light but light is important for proper growth.

I once put a cake in complete darkness 2 days after pinning. Fluorescent tubes were used to initiate pinning. It remained in complete darkness for the entire post-pinning fruiting cycle and still performed excellent.
maybe it was just the MS genetic jackpot though?

Mushrooms use light right up until you harvest them. Mushrooms grown with enough light will have larger and better developed caps and more finish weight. RR

How much light is the right amount? Is there such thing as over kill from a 400HPS system?

Thanks, and to be honest, a deep down thought was that the UV components of the actinic tube might be harmful to the developing caps.
For entertainment, here is a picture that the camera saw yesterday but the eye doesn't see it quite as blue.

Today under normal flouro.
