Should I fruit? or wait?

My 10 gallon monotubs have been colonizing for the last ten days. Today I opened them up and it appears that the tub has colonized everything but the top layer of the tub. The top layer was 1/2 -3/4 inches deep and had no spawn in it. All down along the sides I can see white mycelium. Should I fruit now or wait for it to colonize the full top layer? Here's a pic. Thanks for the help.

I'm no expert but mine always look a lot more colonized than that. I'd wait.

I'd definitely wait.
What's up the tape over the holes? They aren't covering them...

underneath the surface it is colonized just the top layer of substrate didn't have any spawn. I took a spoon and boiled it then after it cooled i use it to pull back some of the layer and it was all white and firm beneath, just seems to be having a hard time to finish colonizing the top layer.

the photo is not good, the holes are taped over just doesn't look like it. I have not cased it, before i added my spawn to the substrate I saved enough of the substrate to cover the surface.... I was following Damion5050's Coir Tek http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11917410
please note step 12..... this is what i did. maybe i should have used less of it?

how is that considered casing? I applied the layer at the same time I added the spawn to the rest of it...just the top layer had no spawn in it....fuck i wish i could explain this better. I have jiffy mix for casing.

i followed the tutorial and that is what damion suggests.....step 12. read steps 6-12 you will see. He says...."STEP 12
Now take that left over coir that was in the bucket and use it to put a top cover layer over the entire surface so that there are no exposed grains." zoom zoom

That's what I did too, and I'm having the same problem.... a few of my tubs taking a while to colonize the top layer. Actually, I went ahead of am trying to fruit one of them, too early, just to see what happens. But I'm going to give the others anther ten days to see what happens. I'd say, like the others said to you: wait... let it colonize.
Maybe give it a solid misting in case the top layer is dry, then put 'er away...

In the future I would just mix it all up =P
