In regaurds to the mention of making companies and banks fail in this article: I think this has already been done. Theres a quote from an old movie that is ruminating through my head. "life isn't based upon reality, but the perception of reality". I think thats going in my sig.

This article got it right, the whole idea of a cyberattack / cyberterrorism is retarded.
OMG I just got hit in the face with an electron! Now we need to reboot the servers, costing billions of dollars!
Its just computers, people can go do something else while the engineers fix it.
Sure, a determined hacker can shut down a power station, but then the people that run it can just unplug the ethernet and turn it back on again, then reconnect in a more secure way.
Its so much easier and more effective just to do a real attack. There is no technology that exists that can stop people from carrying bombs onto airplanes or blowing up buildings. Cyberattacks are some weak teenager shit.

Waging war against the government electronically is futile as long as theres still a person sitting behind that computer. I can't see it ever happening. Possibly, to tip the scales a bit to the opposition in an actual physical attack. seriously, how effective could that be?
I think banks and companies should worry more so than Gov.. Many hackers do so for monetary gain, some in the millions.
I do agree with you though, Alan, many hackers are just angsty teenagers. But I still think its very possible that banks and financial institutions could/have failed due to attacks. Sorry, I didn't quite make my point of view very clear.

theres a lot of angry teenagers in china
regarding the article: its also important to keep an open mind about who is behind the washington think tank that decided a cyber attack can severely effect the national economy.

I don't know, 'Kindergarten Cop', was pretty bad.
But what if one was able to access control of technology that remotely controls military drones or other technology that could be utilized in the implementation of a physical attack? I realize it's a long shot, and not really to the point, but one skilled and motivated enough need only the other party to fall of guard.
Whether that level of skill and motivation is humanly possible, i don't know.

Thanks for sharing the article.
