humidify with wet paper towels?
    #12045917 - 02/17/10 10:10 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

you know the kind that are advertised to hold 30 times more water than their own weight... you think they'd work in a fc instead of perlite?

Cutting corners is usually never a good idea. Paper towels are gonna cost you more than perlite. Perlite can be used over and over.

Yea I agree just got with perlite. It's $4 a bag and will last a hell of a lot longer than some paper towels.

Papertowels act like verm.  They attract h2o not repel it like the perlite.  Exact opposite of what you want.  Plus they contam like crazy.

Agreed ^^^^^^^^^^^,if you can't afford pearlite, then as a last resort, gather rocks/stones(like landscaping/driveway type)and clean well with bleach/water,Scrub em good, and fill terrarium a few inches high, and use them same as you would pearlite.

If you can't find perlite, I've seen people do just water in the bottom of the tub with an air rock for circulation.  You just have to figure out a way to make a platform to keep the cakes out of the water.  Although....nevermind, just had a crazy idea, lol.

i def. wouldnt use paper towels, maybe a regular towel if for some reason you can't go out and get perlite, or even order it off the internet....like everyone else said, its an open invite for contams, esp. if you get any standing water

Just head down to homedepot and pick up some perlite, it's cheap and easy to get.

I read a post from RogerRabbit about using damp paper towels in a shotgun fc. You just have to make sure to change it frequently. See if you can do a search on it and find that thread. I used a wet paper towel in a mini shotgun and it worked just fine, it just dries out really quickly so you have to mist it a lot.

I agree, I used paper towels on my very first grow and I don't feel like it provided near enough humidity.

From what I have read perlite and a monotub will help to insure success.

This is not the hobby for corner cutting. :gethigh:

People use wet towels and paper towels all the time. You just have to watch out for mold. Personally though I say use perlite. It's fairly contam resistant, it holds several times it's weight in water, and it's cheap as shit.

Or if we really want to cut corners...........we could just use dirty laundry, then just mist w/ water and may be dilute it w/ some detergent and  BAM.............RH is up , and laundry is clean.
Then again...........
May be I'll just buy the pearlite.
