Large fruits in PF 1/2 pints/early pins
    #12039161 - 02/16/10 10:29 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Hey all,

I'm 1 month into my 2nd PF TEK grow with pinning/fruiting at 85-90% colonization.  Some jars will make it 100% without removing fruits, but some have fully mature mushrooms and I don't know how long i have until they begin to rot. So can I remove the cake, harvest fruits, and re-incubate for another week or so?  The last time this happened, I scraped off uncolonized area, cauterized and dunked, and ended up with trich. or should in introduce the opened JAR to fruiting conditions? Everything looks healthy so far. Thank You!

Normally the jars won't pin until the mycelium has nowhere left to colonize. But if you have large air holes in your lids, you may have enough FAE to promote pinning. If the mushroom is completely mature, and has broken the veil and dropped spores, go ahead and birth the jar, and cut off the uncolonized portion with a clean knife. Put a little salt on the wound (optional) and put it in the fruiting chamber.

You probably have a contam or too dense/wet of a substrate. If the jars are packed too tight the bottoms have trouble colonizing.

well Teesionbear, I did have a trich outbreak in an FC that was just a few feet from my current jars, but I have seen no visible contams, only healthy pins/fruits. And yes the substrate in half of my current jars was too wet, I know that now.  I had this occur with many jars in my first grow as well, but got 2-3 flushes before the trich. Most of my jars have 4, equidistant holes made with a small nail just big enough for the syringe; some have a 5th center hole  and have been upside-down for near a week and i have seen improvement in colonization times. My jars are on a bookshelf with a large window about 6 ft. away, no darkness with foil removed/tape poked through from initial inoculation.
        Thanks Folks!

Also, i was told to smack the bottom of the jar to release the cake from the sides/bottom of jar and turn upside-down to expose the bottom of the cake.

It's really not like you get trich all the time, when you had it once. It's just the chance of increases.
If you have to deal with it that much, at least throw out your cakes, before it starts to sporulate i.e before it turns green.

When you have standing water on the bottom of your jars, this is what you should do, yes. Leave it this way, because otherwise you run the risk to ruin the dry verm layer.
