Is this ok for my lids?

I plan on using RTV high heat silicone for injection ports and cutting pieces of this envelope for GE.
I was thinking using 1/4 inch hole for the tyvek and just using a nail to puncture a hole small enough for the needle to go through.
should i just tape the tyvek with micropore tap (or does it matter what kind of tape?) to keep it in place and should i place the tyvek on both side of the lid?
should i place the silicone on both sides of the lid for the injection port?
i'v used just poly-fill for injection and GE in the past but found that its kinda of a pain getting the needle through. Plus, half the time I inject more spores in the poly-fill than the actual WBS

thats what i just tried on my last batch and it worked fine, all i did was put a layer under the lid then tightened it down, the jars i did yesterday i took silicone and put on the outside of the lid and put just a small square, so will see how that works..

good that you put the tyvek on the top of the lid this time, when its inside the jars it can get wet and make it much easier for contams to wisk their way into your jars.
taping it with micropore or sealing it with silicone are both viable methods... the silicone will probably last longer if youve got some

i used to use the same thing you are planning to use 1/4 inch hole covered with tyvek held on by micropore tape then a nail sized hole filled with silicone on both sides

they worked ok
now i use synthetic filter disks and rubber injection ports filled with silicone they work much better and last 50 times longer

Do you use both sides of the envelope or just one when cutting the squares out?

you can use the whole envelope minus the sticky flap i would change the tyvek every other time you use them and the silicone only lasts 20 or so stabs before you need to replace it with the filter disks they never need to be replaced and the ports will last 75+ stabs
the filters come in a big sheet and need to be cut by hand they are 1/8th of an inch thick and a pain in the ass to cut the ports you can find online(ill have to look for the site) but the minimum order is 10 bucks plus they charge about 7 shipping

a little off topic, but do you guys prefer tyvek or poly-fill when covering your mono-tub holes?
