Room temp and jar temp

I have my BRF jars sitting behind some books in a bookshelf under a vent into my room. My room usually 70 degrees F but all the jars feel a lot cooler than that.
Will any cooler than 70 be bad for the colonizing process? Or will it just increase the time it takes to colonize?

the jars are actually generating heat as the myc eats your sub, so its warmer on the inside of the cakes than on the outside of the jar. a room temp of 70 (a few deg. higher wouldnt hurt) will be fine

being cooler will slow it down, but it will still colonize, and remember contams like higher temp's

I'm surprised i didn't think that. Thanks for the reassurance!

Also: What is more likely to come first, contams or myc?

If there was a contam in your inoculant then a contam will most definitly show first. Mold can colonize substrate extremely fast, I've seen trich fully colonize a jar in 2 days. So most the time if your gonna get a contam in my experience it will show before the myc does, but that doesn't mean it always works that way.

Usually contams win the battle for substrate as they expand so much faster.
