Looks like the calender has struck the time to get things for an outdoor woodchip grow into preperation. I already have the azurecens spores. I'm guessing these will grow in the same climate as ps.cyans, right?
I've been reading through loads of different teks and have pulled sense out of it, or at least I think. Basically this is my plan.
- Agar up the spores and isolate some prime mycelium - transfer that mycelium to grain. probably bird seed but im still looking into that. if not, rye. This'll either be done in lots of pots or a spawn bag, depending how confident I feel. - I will wait - I will buy a bag of this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/500g-Scandanavian-Alder-Wood-Chips-for-Home-Smoker_W0QQitemZ360156358223QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportingGoods_Camping_CookingSupplies_ET?hash=item53dafde64f Is 500g too much or too little dya' recon? - I will soak the woodchips in the pan of the pressure cooker for about 3 days, drain them for a few hours and then put them into spawn bags and sterilise them in the pressure cooker. - I will take my fully colonized substrate, give it a good old shake and under sterile conditions add the correct ratios of spawn to the woodchips - i'll stick the spawn bags in a dark box or bin bag and put it in my boiler cupboard - I'll wait - I'll buy a big bag of woodchips from a garden centre or something (this is what worries me though, in the uk getting the right supplies is difficult. i guess i'll have to try and get the right kind of wood that hasn't been treated with fungacides... any suggestions?) - I'll make a patch in my garden putting down the new woodchips intertwined with my colonized woodchip spawn and let the damp yet warm english summer take its course.
I know this is a long project that fits according to a calender, but have I kind of got the gist with this? or is there anything else I should know before I get started? and how careful do i need to be about contaminants, especially in the woodchip spawn bag stage.
thanks as always
