Nice Amanita amerimuscaria.
What are the temps like where your at?
There were hundreds of Amanita muscaria var. persicina a week ago here, and now they have all disappeared because of the temperature dropping.

What does the publishing process entail and can it be done by one of us who don't have a PhD yet?

Well ive seen you and every other mod/trusted identifier call the sub species of muscaria amerimuscaria, sooooo...
The DNA testing has proven this already so I think its safe to say these are amerimuscaria.

Someday I plan to put together a more concise map of varieties of amanita muscaria. Regarding your comment about hundreds of persicina, I would be interested in learning the specific location of your sighting (as specific as you want to get). Thanks
