Invitro Pinning help, please.
    #1203662 - 01/09/03 10:03 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

Alright, ive got 6 Jars in my incubator, and theyve been in it for about 5 days-week, and were left un incubated for around a month before then. They are very white, and fluffy, but by no means FULLY colonized...id think they would fall apart if i was to take them out. In some of the jars Pins are developing...big pins. What should i do, i was planning on casing 60/40 coir/verm. Should i case them immediately, can i case with Pins showing already? What would be the best course of action from here on out? Please help me quickly.

fruit them as cakes. if you try to case now you run the risk of contam problems since u have developing pins.

Could i just scrape the top verm layer away, and put a casing mix ontop of that? Ive got the means to do casings...i dont really have the right space to do cakes, nor do i think the cakes would even hold together as cakes when they come out of the jars.

IME, when I case a cake that has already begun pinning, I end up with NO colonization of the casing layer and the verm causes the mycelium and fruits to rot under the surface of the casing. Just stick to fruiting them as cakes.

Yeah, this is my first time grow...but they arnt fully colonized! They are thick and fuzzy....but you can still see the verm (through a white fuzz layer) but its not at all the rubbery plastic looking mycelium that ive seen pictures of, or read about. My initial concern using cakes was the use of a rubbermaid....because im planning on fruiting them in an old dishwasher. My new plan will be Oven pans with perelite in them, then 3 cakes per pan, in the dishwasher, with a picklejar heater, Just get the damn grow over, take prints, and try again. Sounds like a plan?

One more thing, how long can i leave the jars with pins in the incubator? There was 1 pin in 1 jar at 1am last night, 13 hours later there are 4 pins in 3 jars.

case the ones that arent pinning, then place the 3 that are together on a tray, double end case them right next to each other to save room Double ended cake case.

Hell just let the 3 grow out and get some erly mushies cause u will definetly get some faster from the invitro then casing em all.

Yeah, ive got 4 jars which i think ill make a large casing with, and the 3 with pins i will do pf tek. However, rather than the double ended casing, i was thinking of a Internal reservoir tek. Thanks for the input.

it sounds as if you caused your cakes to pin prematurely, did you inspect them alot in the light when you first started getting growth? if you have to inspect them try not to do it in direct light, it will cause your cakes to pin

its not a total loss, ive found i like the kick in the ass that these mini invitro mushies have. just grow them in the jars, these are about to be harvested, dried and eaten to make room for the pinning 3rd flush!

Hmmm, maybe ill try some invitro fruiting...would it be ok in 1/2 pints? I was reading last night about scraping away the verm layer and putting the casing layer right ontop of the jar, and letting it fruit that way. Anyone ever tried anything like this?
