how long should it take to fruit my shrooms? (pic)
    #12035015 - 02/15/10 04:08 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

this is my first time growing, and everything has worked well, but i have put the colonized cakes in the fruiting chamber for about 5 days now and this is all i have (pic). its all white but i don't see any pins just this strange snowy stuff. Am i doing something wrong? and how long should it take before i see pins? i think these are the B+ shrooms.  i have a cool mist humidifier that stays on all the time and keeps everything vest moist and the temp stays about 75 all the time, can someone tell me if i am doing something wrong?

here is another pic too

thanks alot!
wes

That looks weird... Assuming it's not mold, or something that isn't a cube, I'd suggest more free air exchange and better lighting. It looks like the myc is stretching to find more nutrients instead of pinning. It's also only been 5 days, so you much just want to wait it out.

Did you let them consolidate in the jars for a week after "full" colonization?

no i didn't let it sit a week after full colonization, i will on the next ones but i was just wondering about these. i also am going to try to get a better light, i have a 60watt plant light in there now, should i go brighter? and i have been fanning it with the lid a least 2-4 times a day to release co2. anything else you think it might be? and if it is that i didn't let it fully colonize should i just leave it in there and wait?

thanks
wes

60 watts is not necessary. i used to use 3 watt night lights in my tubs. mushrooms are photo tropical, not photosynthesis. The light just tells them to fruit, it dose not make them grow. Plants use light to grow, not mushrooms. The light simply tells the myc, that it has outgrown its substrate, and is time to fruit. maybe that's whats giving you a problem, but i cant tell for sure because, i have never seen anyone use 60 watts.

dunk and roll that shit stat!  humidity is way too high in there.  poke more holes, get rid of the humidifier, whatever you need to do.  my first cake looked like that and was not dunked or rolled and it took a month to start pinning once it was placed in the correct conditions, whereas it should only take about a week if you didn't let it sit for a bit.

What he said.  Except I would keep the humidifier.
