$100 bulk grow no pressure cooker
    #12033755 - 02/15/10 12:51 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Hey everyone. I recently purchased a grow kit and returned it finding out that they are a ripoff. So I now need some help. I was wondering if it is possible to get everything needed to do a bulk grow for around $100. Also I'd like to do it w/o a pressure cooker if thats possible. If there is could you please list out the supplies and amounts needed. I appreiciate all the help.

I did mine for under $100, including spores. Not gonna go through the list of stuff right now, but it's definitely possible.

your most expensive purchase is gonna be the PC, you cant do grains without one.  the cheapest new one youll find will prob be around 35-40.

you should really do your own research -  no ones gonna write up a grocery list for you.

I'm did my bulk grow right now without a pressure cooker and it's coming along fine. 13 quarts of burma on wbs, and 1 qt of gold oyster. I've read a few posts from others who have done wbs and popcorn with no pc and had good results. (But I've also read posts from people who tried and failed.) All of this grow was under $100. Search things like "wbs no pc" and you'll come across some threads or check out my grow log. I even know a dude who managed to do all his rye grows without one. That being said, you gotta be ok with the fact that it's a risk doing it that way and there's a chance everything could contam and you're fucked. You'll want to make sure you soak your grains long enough too. You also gotta make sure your sterile technique is really good.

(Before I get beat up: I'm not trying to spread misinformation by saying that you don't need a PC. I'm just saying that my jars didn't contam after I boiled, but I'm a gambler, lol.)

I can tell you already have the wrong idea right out of the gate. You have no respect for the process which it takes to achieve success and are only looking to get the literal fruits of your labor. If you are going about this hobby in the fashion of spending as little money as possible and trying to get as much mushrooms as possible then you are going about it all wrong. It is a difficult hobby which requires extreme patience and an outlook beyond, "wait till I grow all these shrooms and sell them and get all this money." You have to respect the mushrooms and eventually they will respect you, until then you will be sorely disappointed.

Wal-Mart has cheap presto PCs. Go look for them in the cooking section. Mine cost $30, and I have had it for a year or two and its still working fine.

This is right, now don't get me wrong, its very possible to turn 100 into thousands. but you must put the time in.understanding the process, is your first step. If i was you, I would start with a pf tek. and work your way up to bulks. The pf tek, is like mushrooms 101. Think about it this way, you had to learn basic math, before you could learn algebra, mushrooms are the same way. I'm just saying this because i don't want to see you wast your $100. I see its your first post. welcome to the shroomery.

I was just there and found a decent pressure caner that will hold eight pint jars and I think 4 quarts for right around $60. That is pretty cheap so I plan to pick one up this weekend.

It's 5-10-15 psi with out a gauge. I found it over in the grocery section.

I have been getting by with a real cheap half pint pc and it does the job.

I got a good deal on a nice 16qt pc on ebay for $43, with all the accessories and manual. Check craigslist too. You can find some really good deals if you're diligent about checking postings and auctions.

Good luck, and I hope you have fun. Growing mushrooms can be a lot of work and studying, but it's really enjoyable and rewarding. I think I might even like the growing part better than the tripping part if that's possible.

:peace:

You could always spawn BRF cakes to bulk. You should try your hand at fruiting cakes if you've never grown before, though. If you get everything just right, you'll get decent enough yields.

I know this comes off a little strong and many people have amazing success with bulk grows their first time but I wasn't one of them and you won't be either more than likely. I understand many people don't have tons of money to throw around and neither do I so this is why I gave this advice earlier. You just don't need to jump off the deep end before you learn to swim. Check this out for starters www.mushroomwideos.com, get you some free spores in a contest and go slow. If you ever get big into this hobby you will understand. Check out pf tek on the link above and it will tell you everything you need.

Finally, if you do go bulk your first time, you can buy a small PC from a thrift store or something and use containers that are larger on a horizontal scale rather than vertical so they fit in a shorter pot. I used to use glad ware containers and a 6 qt PC. Good luck and welcome to the Shroomery.
