Immediate help PLZZ
    #12032767 - 02/15/10 09:37 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Hey, some of my jars have already started to pin inside. I need some help i am only spawning about 8 of my golden teachers to small aluminum trays(lined with plastic) I only have one 2 lb brick of coir, a lot of coffee grounds, gypsum, and brf. I am not sure how much of each i should use.
Please help me out, i want to do this right.

Do you have any vermiculite? Pasteurize the coir/coffee/gypsum/verm. Save the BRF for the PF tek, don't use it in bulk grows and never pasteurize brf. I think what you have will give you plenty of sub for 8 jars, although you might have a jar or two left over. You can case the grain jars and fruit them with a ziplock bag as a humidity tent. Don't worry about the jars pinning either, but you will want to spawn them soon.

use one parts spawn and one parts bulk materials. mix them in the trays and let it colonize for a week or so. then fruit them. easy as cake.
for the bulk materials i would use half coir half verm. or all coir. or mostly coir and a little verm.
the point is it really isn't that important. just play around with it.

If the jars are starting to pin, I think they may be pretty well shot for colonization of bulk. Sounds like you gave them too much air. They just need gas exchange.

i disagree, had two brf cakes start pinning in the jar before fully colonized, spawned to coir and its colonizing the coir pretty good so far, and its only been two days!

I could be wrong. That's why I put in the "may be" qualifier. I've never had the issue, so that's good to hear.

I'm not sure who to give credit as the author of this is but I took it from this thread

Quote:

Contrary to popular belief, a few pins in the grains can be spawned right into the manure or straw (or used in grain to grain transfers) and they do not rot or otherwise cause contamination. There is evidence they actually help to give a faster, more uniform pinset in the eventual flushes. Stamets believes it's the hormones or other chemical triggers in the pins that do this. Exposing light from day one, one jar out of a hundred will make an early pin or two, but I simply spawn those pins right into bulk substrate along with the grains with zero ill effects. (In other words, small pins don't contaminate when spawned to bulk along with the grains).

Thanks for the help. I birthed the 7 Amazonian just now. I have 1 Amazonian still coloninzing along with 2 Treasure coast and 8 Golden teachers. I am just going to fruit the ones i just birthed from the cakes themselves. I plan on using 4 golden teachers in each of my little aluminum trays and spawning them to bulk. I have noticed that the Amazonins colonize at a faster rate then the golden teachers. I also have 2 treasure coast that i may fruit from the cakes.

Take that back i am at 7 Golden Teachers, 2 Treasure Coast, 2 Amazoninan still in the jars. I guess ill break up 3 1/2 of the GT for each tray. Probably fruit the GT, and Tc alone as is. Exciting!

What do you mean i gave them too much air? I uncovered my tape after 20% colonization. I believe it was that light that triggered the pinning. Maybe if i had allowed them to coloninize 80% then put them in the dark they will stall on the pinning.

FAE is a primary pinning trigger. Pinning can happen in jars with only GE, put it's not common, and several jars is really something. I just can't thing of any other way that could happen. Are these PF jars with a verm layer and just a couple small nail holes? If grain jars, how was the GE set up?

Yeah i used the pf tek. It did not start to pin in a lot of my jars. just 3. I am going to try WBS for my next grow.
