Blower help with a 2x4 filter
    #12028765 - 02/14/10 04:59 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

OK guys, don't beat me up for not searching every post on the subject because I did try, but most are not in the same cfm requirement as a larger size.  And those that DO use the 24x48 filters are usually using the all-in-one units with a blower already built in. I going with the logic the most here are using a 12x24 or a 24x24 filter and most are at a resistance of .8 to 1.0 so just find the specs on there blower and multiply by 2-2.5.  The problem is that most high cfm @ high resistance (that meet my needs)are 230v units.  I'm not interested in adding a 230v outlet to my room so i'm limited to 115 blowers.  So i'm here asking about using a double or twin blower system.  I like the flexibility of two speed units but wiring the system together is where I get a little confused. Daytons 1TDT8 is looking very attractive to me.  Does anyone here have any input on building a hepa box needing roughly 800 cfm @ 1.0 limiting the search some to 115v units.  Thanks in advance

It has failed to keep drugs away from teenagers. It has failed to stop the violence associated with drug trafficking. It has failed to help drug addicts get treatment. It has failed to prevent the cultivation of marijuana and the making of illicit drugs. It has failed to halt the flow of illegal drugs into the United States.

Sorry guys.... I'm attempting to build a laminar flow box/table.  I didn't know i was asking a lot of a first post.  I have actually been a around for 11+ years on one mycology forum or another if it matters to you.  There are many more experienced than I am so I do not bother to contribute any unnecessary info and crowd threads with pointless posts.  This is why I have an nonexistent thread count.  My apologies friends

High CFM blowers vs. laminar flow [Re: feelfunny]
    #12032982 - 02/15/10 10:28 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Okay, guys here's another question. After reading through as many posts  as I could find of the subject of larger I'm finding that many of the more reliable members seem to discourage usage of fans that would create enough flow to replicate laminar flow out of a 24'x48'x6" filter rated at 1200'ish @ 1." SP.  Most seem to say without specific detail that too much air is not good for sterile practices.  Why is 400cfm coming out of a 24x24 filter okay but 800-1000 out of a 24x48 too much???  I'm just wanting to increase the horizontal working area.  Many people seem to complain about building/buying a hood too small, so why not go a little bigger if you have the room?

Okay guys, I'm trying to get more info back from fungi.com about there monster 1600cfm 1/2 hp fan but till then I'm still window shopping for other options to get to my 1000+ cfm w/ speed control goal.  I think F/P is asking a little much for a a high static pressure direct drive double inlet fan.  Granger lists several Dayton options close to the specs Fungi lists for $50-100 less.  I'm hoping someone here can chime in with what they have learned while building there hepa box.  I'm also waiting to hear why the volume of air from a 2x4 unit is alarming to some and (discouraged by a few!) while the same formula is acceptable for smaller 12x24 or 24x24 units...
