HEPA Air Purifiers, good idea?
    #12026671 - 02/14/10 10:55 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

So, my second attempt at growing has failed as well. Like the first attempt within a week after inoculation I start seeing green and purple in my jars. I have used a glove box and practiced as sterile a technique as I can after doing much research on this forum on sterility. I know that there have been green molds growing in my room before due to my own lack of cleanliness and I believe that my room is just infested with spores and no matter how sterile I am the air in here is probably just totally screwed. I'm totally cleaning everything and from now on there is going to be no food in here ever.

I am also buying a HEPA Air purifier in attempts to purge any remaining air borne spores and to keep my room as germ and mold free(except for the ones I'm growing) as possible.

I'd like to hear from various people about their thoughts on HEPA Air purifiers, do you think they've helped? Are they effective at keeping your growing area less likely to contaminate your projects? Any advice on using them for best results?

I had a serious contaim problem and a hepa did help somewhat.  What i would suggest in addition to the hepa is buy some serious disenfectant and spray your whole house down with it as well

I had pretty much the same problem as you concerning green mold. I bought a hepa air filter and I've noticed a huge difference since I've had it running. I used to have serious problems with my casing layers getting trich before they were even totally colonized and that problem is totally gone now that I bought a hepa air filter.

As far as for jars in my opinion there's not a whole lot a hepa air filter will do for you though. If you weren't sterile enough making your jars it's gonna go bad either way but a hepa air filter is very useful if you have issues like I did with a cake or casing going moldy to fast. I couldn't get 2nd flushes even out of most my casings cause I had such a green mold problem but now I've been able to get some good 2nd flushes.

won't hurt, but you have to correct your other sterile techniques as stated above. no matter what you will always have spores in your room.
I would just make a $10 glove box, you will need it with or without the hepa filter in the room (unless you are planning on spending some big money on a flowhood) But then again a flowhood does not guarantee success, it is only a specific tool for a part of the cultivation process
