Cakes Constantly Pinning
    #12026169 - 02/14/10 08:27 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Hey Guys. I have some Cambodians growing currently. Some of you might of read my posts a few weeks ago. I had a grow that pinned, and that was it. Most pins stayed tiny, many aborted. I ended up getting full blown green mold (may have been the issue all along, just hidden) and started from scratch with some jars that had colonized recently.

So yeah, currently, I have 6  BRF PF Tek 1/2 pint jars in my fruiting chamber. Two of them are recently birthed and just started throwing out a couple monster pins.  The other 4 cakes are a little older. They pushed out a very decent first flush (esp for my first successful grow), about 1/8th apiece. Thing is, I never have had a real 'flush' IMO compared to what you guys keep writing about on here. I had a few very large fruits, and before they matured, more pins.. then they matured, and now I have just harvested MORE veil breakers, but they are much smaller than my first 'clusters'. Basically, my cakes are shriveled, light as a feather and turning blue from constantly being picked, yet they keep going and going.. now I'm not complaining, this is amazingly awesome for me to have all these mushies at my fingertips, but I wanted to dunk and get a real second flush, with some fatties..

They have more small pins now.. should I just dunk them now before they mature anymore, or just wait until it stops pinning altogether?
I feel like the longer I let this go on, the fewer nutes are going to be there for the next flush...

Thanks in advance for the advice.

It's up to the mushroom weather it produces many smaller fruits or few big fruits. That depends on the specific genetics of the phenotypes you're growing.
With MS inoculation, you often have several strains growing simultaneously on the same substrate (i.e. cake), that fruit at different times and might look different from each other. There's nothing you can do about it.
Cakes with small pins can be dunked and the pins should grow on.
All you can do is to provide the best circumstances.
Keep in mind that mushrooms need MUCH water. Mist the cakes thoroughly multiple times a day, while providing enough FAE at the same time.
If the fruits turn out small or as aborts, this might be caused by a lack of water.

If you are using perlite, I found that re-soaking frequently will help on keeping the humidity in your chamber, especially if you fan a whole lot...

You might as well dunk, but the more important part is knowing how long to leave your lid on and how many times you can fan...

Fanning is required, but the RH should remain in the upper 90ies all the time. You ain't suppose to take the lid of the tub off except for fanning.

Enough perlite will provide an RH in the upper 90ies.
When the water from the perlite evaporates and gets out of the tub, you should re-wet the perlite.
It's quiet simply actually.

I understand all of that. I just wanted to know why it wasn't flushing all at once, and if I could give the small pins that are on there now a dunk. It was an MS inoculation, and a lot of the shroomies do look different. I've noticed the ones that stay smaller have much lighter caps from the very beginning, and the fatties usually take longer and have very dark brown caps. Like I said, I'm not complaining, I'd rather get lots and lots of smaller mushrooms than nothing at all. I think they are about to slow down/stop, as there really can't be any water left in those cakes at all.

I mist and fan at least 4 times a day.. I try and do more but during the work week it's a little harder. It's a Shotgun FC and humidity stays around 95%-99%...obviously Im doing something right for them to just keep fruiting like this..

I recently asked about pinning intervals here.

Also you can dunk if you got pins on your cake, just don't roll afterwards.

In my experience, pins will typically survive a 12-24 hour dunk. You just need to be gentle so they don't get knocked off the cake. Go ahead and dunk the poor thirsty things, they will thank you for it! Best of luck
