quick ? about "spawn"
    #12025077 - 02/13/10 11:48 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

hello folks!

I have been reading a lot from here(forums and site) recently, and there's this one thing I have doubt wich is spawn. Beign a french canadian I never encountered the word "spawn" and the google translation was no help.
correct me if I'm wrong but spawn is nothing more than mycelium(crumbled cake or colonized grain) used to colonize an other substrate wich will result in a multiplied mycelium surface???????

Simon - I could be wrong or misunderstanding of the correct terminology but I consider any Grain substrate  that has mycelium growth, Spawn.
I also use "Spawn Run" as the time from which I inoculate said Grains till the time in which I birth them(so to speak) to casings or use in a bulk type grow tek...
I hope this helps and is not too far off base!
Good Luck

Atlantic salmon may survive spawning and return to the ocean to continue growth and spawn a second or third time.

Frog spawn and toad spawn are quite different to look at, and are found in different places.

Your child is a Demon Spawn.

She is the spawn of Satan.

Spawn pretty much describes what the material the mycelium grew/grows on is used for.
When grains are knocked up it's the substrate until it's used as a spawn to knock up a bulk substrate.
Same with cakes. Cakes are normally used as a substrate, but crumbled, can be used as a spawn as well.

This is -at least- my definition:shrug:
