I have not decided if i am going to use a casing for my cubes yet. If i do, i have verm/peat/oyster shells, should i buy calcium carbonate or is that what the oyster shells are for? I will be using gypsum in my substrate so i assume i will not need it for my casing.

Calcium carbonate of some sort (usually lime) is required if you are working with peat, you want to balance the pH.

Too much can burn it...I use jiffy mix 50/50 peat moss verm with some lime tossed in for casing. Walmart sells it.

Exactly- if you are working with hydrated lime, use far less than if you use limestone flour. I'm sure the search engine can give exact quantities to use with any form you find.
