What can I do with popcorn?

I got 4 pounds of natural popping corn at Wal-Mart the other day. What exactly can I do with it? I saw the Popcorn Tek, but I'm pretty sure I have to case it or spawn to a bulk substrate? Here's what I've got to work with:
-PC -BRF -Vermiculite -Perlite -Shotgun FC -2 strains of P. Cubensis -10 PF Tek jars, colonized anywhere from 25-100% -Some half pint jars -Popcorn -Honey (LC's maybe?) -Panaeolus Cambodginiensis print
That's about it. Anything new I can do besides PF tek?

Best use of popcorn for mycology. It's just not well suited to any other task.

http:// it will work, But many consider it the worst choice of grain. I simply made it work out of necessity. But it will grow nice big fat mushrooms, But it seems to get consumed fast.By the third flush, its gone. But i get a nice big first and second, off of it. I'm working with rye grass seed right know. But ill still make up a few popcorn jars once in a while. good luck, with it if you decide to try. any experience, is good experience. right.

I think popcorn sucks because of all the preparation time involved that's totally needless with other grains. I had pretty good results using it in my first ever grow though, I just don't use it anymore because it's a waste of time...

i prep like this. I put one cup of popcorn in the jar. 2/3 cup water, pinch of gypsum. I put filter discs on and a piece of aluminum foil on. I then place them in a worm spot for 24 hours. Then I pressure cook for 1 hour 30 minutes. I think that's fairly simple. I have used 24 hour soak, and boil, then dry and load method too. I always come back to making them in the jar.

So can I fruit colonized popcorn directly out of the jar? Could someone explain what the possible options are after the popcorn is colonized?
Also, I don't have any tyvek or rubber stoppers to make self healing lids. Aren't the USPS envelopes tyvek of some sort? I do have this: http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3614513&CAWELAID=348436332 It says silicone adhesive, but it's not like the stuff you buy at auto stores. I already drilled four holes in all of my jars for PF Tek, so I'd have to seal it somehow.

no that's not exactly what i meant. I was ex-planing how I make grain jars. You need a tek. That you should thoroughly reed before you begin this. But some people do fruit out of the jars. I put mine in trays, and case them, then i place them in my fruiting chamber. If i remember correctly their is a couple teks, here that explain popcorn more thoroughly.

Not very well. Popcorn is not a popular grain for mycology, it just doesn't work well. Try rye or WBS.

I disagree with the posts in this thread. It seems a lot has changed since I last posted often here - but some things stay the same.
POPCORN is a GREAT substrate, I dont care what anyone says. It colonizes fast, flushes are good, less prone to contams than WBS.

I think a lot of people here who diss popcorn either A) Havent spent enough time with it, and made a premature opinion, B) Just listen to what others have posted on here, or C) both.
I've had amazing results with popcorn since day one - and while some substrates are obviously a better choice - like rye.....if popcorn is all you have, it works wonders.
You dont need to spawn it to bulk substrate. just use quart jars, and case w/ verm and coco coir. nothing much different than other substrates

I do agree, I like popcorn too. I started with popcorn, it was the only thing i could get to work. If it hadn't been for popcorn, I would still be making those dam pf jars. I have manly been looking into other grains because every one her keeps telling me too.

Everything is prone to contams if you don't do it right :P Use what ya got, popcorn works, people have used it with success. I'd suggest starting with BRF, but if you're gonna use the popcorn I would go and get a bulk substrate like poo/coir/straw to spawn it to. I <3 WBS

In an automated greenhouse, I've managed to use popcorn for almost a decade with successful results - never had a problem. Every other grain, like WBS, or BRF, (except for rye) has some downfall that I didnt care for.
I said it before Ill say it again, the benfits of popcorn: 1) More resistant to contams than WBS (in my opinion) 2) Faster colonization times than Rye, WBS, and BRF 3) HUGE flushes, well into the 2-3 flush. 4) cheap, although not as cheap as WBS, but nonetheless, cheap. 5) VERY easy to get. Walmart, grocery store, etc 6) easier to work with than BRF, not as easy as WBS, but still easy to prepare. simmer, PC, bam your ready to go. 7) Steady, constant results w/ this grain. If all things are constant, you will have good results each and everytime.
