About Grow Lights...

So, I want to have a reasonably sized garden...
Will the electricity company notice...oh...a 150w HPS, and maybe 20 CFL's? Like, the little 26w ones, or something like that.
Do they really care? Or are those just stupid horror stories you read about?
Seems like, as long as they are getting their money, they won't give a fuck.

u have nothing to worry about with a 150w, maybe if you were running 4 1000 w then u would have to worry. It takes more electricity to power a computer for a day than a 150w, and cfls take up almost nothing. good luck with the grow

Thanks bro...
Actually, I always have a fan on 24/7 in my room. IDK why, I like the sound when I sleep, and forget to turn it off. Maybe if I just stop running that, it won't make that big of a difference haha.

a 150w hps and a few cfl's will only make your elec bill go up maybe $25 a month or so. even if you did have 4 1000w hps lights, so long as you pay your elec bill, your fine.
it's when you start not paying your elec bill, or start steeling power is when people get caught.
fwiw, i had a 400w hps/mh (switchable ballast), two fans, and several cfls all going at the same time and my bill only went up about $40 a month.

$25 is all? Well, I'll certainly save that once I don't need to buy weed anymore.

150w HPS, and maybe 20 CFL's? Like, the little 26w ones,
150w HPS x 18 hrs/day = 2700wh/day 20 x 28w CFL x 24 hrs/day = 13,440wh/day
That's a total of 16,140 wh/day.
16,140 * 30 days/month = 484,200 wh/month = 484.2 kwh/month
Electricity averages 11.7 cents/kwh in the US. So running those lights would cost you $56.65 a month in power. I wouldn't think that would be suspicious really. It all depends on your current power bill. You'd be better off running just two 400W lights and a couple fluorescent tubes for clones. That would run about $50/month and you could grow a hell of a lot more and have better quality.
Personally I wouldn't bother turning on a light less than 400W for growing. I assume you'll use the CFLs for clones and starting plants, but it sounds like a lot of CFLs for that.

I ran a 400 watt for maybe 6 years no problem.
I have a friend who I gave the light to for one of his spare bedrooms for legal cactus and plants and he runs it everyday no problem.
Your only problem is keep that mouth closed and tell no one else.
And the smell, I know these days they have carbon scrubbers, but my condo use to smell like skunk back when I grew and that really limited my friends I invited over.

Fortunately my crib is right on a beach...so any friends I have over usually end up out on the lake/beach anyway. The only reason someone comes inside is to lay down because they're puking too hard...and they'd be too drunk to make it to my grow room anyway haha.
And yeah, I'll be using the CFL's for cloning...and a few with the HPS to get under the leafs (was good in my (minimal) past experience.)
Thanks for the info guys. I'll hopefully be smoking some real nice bud in a few months

A space heater is 1500 watts, anything less than that is fine.
In many places (like california) you can use as much power as you want as long as you pay the bill.

What kind of sq footage are we talking about?
In the past, I have only used 600 or 1000watts for mothers and floro's for clones.
Your electricity usage isn't suspicious, I'm sure its nothing compared to others who have larger things going on. With all the money you will be paying them, they won't trip. If you pay more and are on time with payments, why would they care?

That's not much.

the usual rule of thumb tends to be an extra 1000w per room in your house
all that would look like to the electric company is a bunch of plasma tvs
youre definitely not even close to having to worry

It all depends what your current bill is. If your normal bill is $30 and it goes up to $100 that might throw some flags. Then if they bother to look at the power and have you on a newer grid they'll see that you've got something kicking on on a timer for 18 hrs/day. Then it's pretty obvious what you're doing.
