I heard about a guy who was five days since pinset, thirty or so shrooms growing, when the whole tray seemed to stall. They stopped growing and havn't broken their veils for a couple days. What to do? What did he do wrong?

Hmmmm....the first thought that comes to mind is lack of moisture? Did he hydrate enough?

I think so. He has a two tier mini greenhouse. Using a cool mist humidifier on a timer for a couple of hours a day for fresh air, and a tray of perlite in the bottom of the greenhouse for humidity.

Does he got a hygrometer to measure humidity? I had this problem once, everything stalled and the humidity was about 100% all the time

He thinks the casing could have been too dry. Could this have contributed?

from the sounds of things it sounds like your casing layer is dry. don't spray directly onto the pins....spray above the casing with a fine mist sprayer...til the casing layer is semi-moist...but don't over do it.
what type of casing layer are you using?
what is the substrate that you used?
which strain too?

Okay I finally checked. The strain was Acadian Coast from TLG. The substrate was birdseed, and the casing is 6T's recipe of five parts peet, 5 parts verm, 1 part coir & 3 parts calcium carbonate. According to a pH kit the pH tested out to 7.0. Somewhat slow to colonize quart jars, it took about a month. But they fairly quick to pin, about 10 days from casing.

I liked the Acadian Coast strain. They grew great on cakes...never tried doing them in casings....yet.
Here are some AC cake eye candy for you.

Those cakes were from last year.
