What is the most interesting thing you've ever eaten?

I had some live Yellowfin Tuna a few months ago. Not as though it was squirming around, but we landed the fish and ate some within minutes. Sushi.
I could think of stranger ones, but that one was recent and delicious.

I guess I haven't eaten anything very interesting. I recently had gator tail for the first time. The shit was fried and breaded - gator tail nuggets are fucking delicious.

once on a survival course in Montana in the late summer they gave us gallon milk jugs, with a bit cut out, but the handle left so you could hang it off your belt with a carabiner. then they told us to catch all the grasshoppers we could all day and snap the big back legs off and let them go. we were all like wtf? but it wasn't a situation where questions were encouraged, so....
late in the day we all have half full to full jugs of legs...all kinds of twitchy nastiness. and then the old boy in charge pulls out a big kettle to go over the fire pit he makes us build. and the water and Crab Boil. now if you are from the southern USA you know Crab Boil....it's a kinda greasy block of spices or a bag of powdered same...you put it in the water and boil your chosen crustacean in it and it auto spices it. good stuff, but i wasn't real thrilled with what i thought i saw comin up.
sure enough, he asked if anyone had ever cleaned shrimp. so i said yes and two other guys, and we got to slip the tiny bit of meat in each grasshopper leg out into the pot while training every other ham handed fool to (apparently) drop dinner in the dirt....
now those of you who haven't seen late summer Montana grasshoppers need to know, these aren't the little things you see in town. i'm a big guy, and these things were at least the thickness of my thumb and longer by 50%.
with some freeze dried veggies and some wild garlic and greens he made some of the other poor victims dig up, it made a damn nice jambalaya.
tasted just like shrimp.

Worm's Magget's Grass hoppers Crawdad's Ant's Frog's Frog leg's Turtle's Rocky Mountain oysters Boiled Elk Penis Crow Sparrow Among other thing that for some reason slip my mind at this time. Used to do a lot of outdoor survival training few years back, good stuff to know if you ever need to know it but most the time its just useless mind clutter.

maggots, interestingly enough, are cleaner than most stuff you can eat. and any flesh they are feeding off of directly will not be spoiled either; the are so good at creating a clean environment that at last resort, one may apply maggots to a gangrenous wound. they will eat all of the necrotic tissue, leaving only the clean and healthy tissue.
horrible, but far better than dying of blood poisoning somewhere unpronounceable while you try to steal a boat to get the fuck out o' this thirdworld shithole.

Seems like a contradiction. I'd known they were used for cleaning a wound, but not the other stuff.

Yea, I don't think a maggot ridden carcass is that healthy of an option.
But maggots themselves most definitely clean wounds by only eat dead tissue and are clean themselves to eat.

since they won't eat "good tissue", preferring the rotten stuff, once one brushes off the writhing, moving carpet of maggots, it is easy to discern the good from the bad. ignore anything they are still stuck to, feeding, and cut off the rest and cook the shit out of it.
i mean, not if you can kill or find something fresher dude. but if you are so weak that you are chasing the foxes off the kill and breaking the bones with stones for marrow soup, then you NEED that protein.
this is eat tonite or freeze/starve tonite shit.

I went scuba diving off this remote island in the bahamas and there was a stand right by the dive shop that sold fresh queen conch cevichi. One of the best foods I've ever tasted and unfortunately cant get anywhere around here. Even if it was available, you just cant beat something that's been harvested just a few miles and minutes away.
lol @ calamari... that's kinda a standard dish as far as I know

OH and when we were really poor a few years ago me and room mate tried to kill a goose.
Needless to say geese are wary of hunters, however coots are not
We killed ten but were only able to retrieve 4, and only 2 ended up being eaten.
They taste like duck but soaked in river water.
Never again will I poach poverty foods outta the water.

By others standards probably unagi(eel) and (tako) octopus. But I was around it everyday so it wasn't a thang. Unagi is actually really good imo, it kinda has a mushy texture but I really enjoy the flavor. Never had it in me to try the sea urchin, heard it can be quite off putting. Ive never had the chance to try any exotic game although I would like to.

You guys are pretty adventurous eaters. I think calamari and blue cheese are the only "weird" things I've had.

a jar of nutmeg, yes the whole jar
several hundred MG seeds I took from next to an ER entrance with EMTs watching me pick every seed I could off this plant.
paper
various insects
chalk
And I hope Im not the only one to have tried this, but when I was 4 years old I ate a few sesame seeds that were showing in my poop, then told everyone that I still had some good food left over in me.
I washed them off of course
Things did not go well, First instance in my life where I heard "Im not mad, Im just disapointed"

Uni (sea urchin) is actually pretty good. Its got kind of an eggy taste to it IMO. Unagi is one of my staples whenever I get sushi, as well as a spider roll (Fried whole soft shell crab).
I've never really thought octopus or squid were very good as sushi. Too chewy when they are uncooked.

Personally i find them to taste pretty dang good one of my top 10 Food's. Grew up eating them. One of my first memory's is going to a local round up with my great grandfather in which the castration and cooking of Rocky Mountain Oysters was a pretty big thing. Kinda a right of passage.

I washed them off of course
Things did not go well, First instance in my life where I heard "Im not mad, Im just disapointed"

Yeah, I've always thought it was pretty good, my dad gets it whenever we go for sushi. Certainly not one of my favorites. There are too many good options with sushi. A typical lineup for me would look something like: Eel, Spider, Tuna, Yellowtail, and one or two more depending on the restaurant.
I will say, uni is a very potent taste, and if you don't enjoy it you are likely to be very put off by it. I remember getting some that was too old or something and I just couldn't eat it, but every other time I've found it to be enjoyable.
