Cakes drying out
    #1200241 - 01/08/03 08:43 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Is there anything you can do to cakes that havent finished totally colonizing but look like they are drying out "the mycelium has a sort of pinkish tint and looks shriveled" to rehydrate them without risking contamination?

if they have a pinkish tint, they are already contaminated..!!

they should be nothing else but pure white!!! maybe a bit of blue from bruising!!

isolate that sucker NOW!!

oh, if it's not contaminated!!!

try injecting a few cc's of water with a syringe. i'd suggest 1 cc at a time, and wait a while for it to disperse!!

good luck!

Nah, i can tell they arent contaminated, the slight tint is definately from being dehydrated.

Have you tried misting? Take a non-translucent spray bottle, add 10 parts water, 1 part H2Ow, and spray it.

Try the straw tek. All you do is take a piece of clear straw (like from wendy's or mcdonald's) and stick it into the center of the cake (make sure its sterilized first). Then fill the straw with some sterilized spring/distilled water. The cake will soak up the water from the straw. As it does just refil it using a sterilized syringe or something.

You could try injecting it through one of the inoculation points with sterile water. This is only if it's dried out though....

Patience   As long as the parameters are correct and the cakes look healthy, you will see pins shortly.
