fruit dehydrators too hot? * 1

i want an easy may to dry my mushrooms but i know a fruit dehydrator uses a little heat, and i know that heat causes loss in potency. So are they too hot to use or no they not harm the shrooms too much?

they work just fine. try to get one with low or no heat. the one i have has a low setting of 95 degrees and works dandy.

Easy answer to this problem. Take the heating element out of the dehydrator.

Get a food deydrator that has a 85 or 95 degree F setting.
I haven't noticed any loss in potency from using mine.

I use a fruit dehydrator but I took out the heating element and put in desicant at the bottom. Works well.

i agree. a dehydrator that dries at 95 degrees should have little if any effect on potency.

think about it: how hot does it get in the south where shrooms grow in the wild? how about after people down south harvest their shrooms? doesnt it get above 95 for days at a time? are their mushrooms losing potency the whole time it's over 95 degrees unless they put them in a fridge or freezer?

having lived there, i can tell you there is no apparent problem with mushrooms losing potency where the temp goes (well) above 95 degrees for days or weeks at a time. therefore, there should be even less concern drying the shrooms for 12 to 24 hours at 95 degrees.

I also am using a dehydrator which has a 95 deg setting. Made by Ronco and I bought it at Walmart for $40. I don't believe it lowers potecy either. Just think, to make mushroom tea you throw the shrooms in water which is about 200 degs. Even that doesn't seem to destroy the shrooms active ingredients.
