SO CAL HUNTING AREAS!
    #11999869 - 02/10/10 01:17 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Well since everyone keeps asking where to look for mushrooms in Southern California I decided that I would dedicate a thread just to that.

I'll first off start by thanking EVERYONE who has helped me with the information that I have come across finding...
:omgawesome:
According to the post found here: http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-psilocybin-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area

these are the most common Psilocybin mushrooms you can find in SO CAL:
.+*^*+. CLICK NAMES FOR PICTURES .+*^*+.

Inocybe corydalina -

Galeropsis sp. -

Gymnopilus luteofolius -

Panaeolopsis sp. -

Panaeolus castaneifolius -

Panaeolus cinctulus -

Psilocybe "cyanofriscosa"
-

Psilocybe "meridianus" -

Psilocybe subaeruginascens -

If you are going to go hunting please read about each of these species and make sure that you are familiar with these as they will be the most common in So Cal. Find out about their look alikes and make sure you know as much about these as possible.

:rules:
If you have found an area in SO CAL that you would like to share, please do! Let us know the following:

What city is it in?
Is it a park, forest, What kind of habitat?
The last time you found something there?
What time of year you found it? Month? Season?
and any other pertinent information that will help us find this location. Please ONLY post hunting areas and posts that have ONLY TO DO WITH finding those locations.

Please remember be mindful and dont over pick! :mushroom2:'s will die out too!

First off I would like to thank:
CapMeh
CapZilla
nachohippie
noobieshroomie
Alan Rockefeller

but most of all, ID LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO ARE GOING TO HELP US ALL FIND ~> :scaryshroom:

Nice try, and I hate to break it to ya, but your post breaks the rules. You aren't allowed to reveal specific locations of hunting spots, active or edible or LBM.

:rules:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2263556

Quote:

7. No requesting or revealing specific locations.
Locations NOT allowed: Business names, government buildings, shopping centers, pasturelands, when specific directions are given to a location, or any place with an address. Use common sense about what might be considered a specific location. When in doubt, do the moderators a favor and just don't say it.

Sorry, just trying to help!

I disagree and I don't see anything wrong with it yet.  If someone posts an exact location I will edit it out, but posting the name of a city or a large park is fine.

He edited out the part where he was asking for GPS coordinates and street addresses.

That would have been against the rules, correct?

Correct.  Locations should be at least a couple square miles.

oh thanks for the shout out.

Nice post though i think some of the links are not working though but not sure i just scrolled over them.

as for location yeah you should definitely keep locations at square miles like alan had said.

i've gotten my threads deleted before for not thinking about the forum rules.

but in all  pretty helpful doesnt hurt.

Please do not post names of parks. Just a reminder! It is illegal to hunt in almost every known park in SoCal  from LA  down to San Diego and it is a good way to make park rangers less forgiving of our hobby.  There was 4 instances in the last two months where some mushroom hunters copped an attitude with rangers in So Cal. Be polite and if they tell you you cannot hunt, Say "OK" and move on. A city or area is sufficient. Good luck.

Not sure why this is relevant to the this thread but I am putting it on here!

Last night I dreamt that you could purchase mushrooms from target...yes target. In the gardening section there were bags of psilocybe cyanescens
for purchase. I was going crazy. So excited started taking pictures and sending them to friends and was getting ready to post it online when my alarm went off and woke me up. Blah a man can dream.

Well, if its a grassy horse train then i would think that would be a great place to look, but if its a dirt trail with just little poops here and there i would stick to lawns and nice parks. You would be looking for panaeolus subbalteatus.

Has anyone found any of the other active species that are native to socal?

ex:
Inocybe corydalina

Galeropsis sp.

Gymnopilus luteofolius

Psilocybe "meridianus"

I have only found Panaeolopsis sp. and Panaeolus cinctulus

Has anyone had any luck with the other species?

I'm new to the biz, I'm getting so anxious, what with the rain and all. I have a question: there's a pasture nearby, south cali, with, what I believe are juniper bushes nearby, can anyone please tell me if any actives are found near them? I really appreciate everything you guys have on this site, sorry if my question is ignorant but I've only been out 3 x's so far 8(. Love it though . Thank you, happy hunting

Check this page:
http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-psilocybin-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area

It will help you narrow down your search for active mushrooms - which may be hard to find in late Feb/March.

it would be nice to find:

these are the apparent potent wood loving actives in SoCal

you can find more here, im not sure of the exact name cause apparently the name chosen was already taken but heres the post about the alterdstate/subbedhunter420 find:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9679618#9679618
from the post though they grown from april tell september
they prefer higher temps 75-90
venture/la county and from the pictures some were found in malibu?

i guess i'd be looking for these under plants around wood chippings? Not certain if youd look after heavy rain considering they prefer the warmer weather

Youre best off looking for Panaeolus Subbalteatus. April-September, in new sod lawns, well kept grassy areas at parks, Horse dung in moist places like in stables or mixed with grass. Here is a few pictures of them and their habitat, theres more than enough information in this thread for you to have a fruitful hunt this coming summer
