Air 'De-Ionizer'

I work in a hotel, and when a room smells like an ashtray, we put this air de-ionizer in it for 30 minutes and it seems to do the job....does anyone know of this or something similar being a postive effect in a fruiting chambeR?

i was asking because I don't understand what an de-ionizer does....Thank's for being real blunt, it was awesome.

All an air ionizer does is ionizes the air around it and attracts the dust particles. As far as I know, it does nothing for contams, but I think you're looking into its use for air exchange. It wouldn't do much since all it does is gets particles and dust out of the air, it waits for the dust to get close, then it attracts it. It wouldn't circulate and exchange air though.

a little more specific: they are high voltage negatively charged emitters (think a high voltage wire just sitting in the air) as particles in the air pass by the ionizer they too become negatively charged and therefore will attach themselves to that which is positively charged which is usually the walls and floors. not very useful unless you have some method for making positively charged plates for the stuff to accumulate on for future cleaning. also they suck because it charges the room to the point that everything you touch will shock you, over and over again. not fun. let's say your incubator walls are plastic, expect the airborne contams to actually be attracted to and stick to the plastic. not good. fuck ionizers.

ps. it's an ionizer not a deionizer

They actually could get rid of certain hazardous chemicals in the air, and some bacteria, but from experience, and $400 on a Sharper Image model, it won't do much for air exchange.

They are great for the room you prep and grow in. there are plans at overgrow.com for a home-made ionizor for under $20

Spider plants are natural de ionizers, they grow really quick and are very cheap.

A cheap ioniser is a worthwhile investment if you have a few pot plants, and want to disguise that harvest-time smell, but for mushrooms they're worthless. while you're with this BETTER hobby, put that ioniser to use on the sideboard, cleaning up your living room (or your 'hotel room')
