Crestline CA Snowventure
    #11866450 - 01/20/10 03:05 PM (14 years, 29 days ago)

Hello everyone,
I am driving up to Crestline CA on Feb 5Th, and i was wondering if anyone has had hunting experience up there? Crestline is directly north of San Bernardino and about 5-6 miles west of Lake Arrowhead. Its bound to be covered in snow this time of year and i was wondering if a hunt would be ridiculous or not. I was hoping to find some edibles, maybe a fly agaric or two, but I'm not sure how California mountain mushrooms cope with the snow. If anyone has any experience with the lake arrowhead area please drop some info is you would be so kind. If this is anything of a common post i apologize, i tried looking up "arrowhead ca" "lake arrowhead ca" "crestline ca" in the this forum but didn't find anything. So hopefully this is acceptable. Thanks a bunch everyone!
peace, love, & music.

The first few pics are Pholiota.

The Lactarius might be Lactarius xanthogalactus.

I agree with your ID on the Entoloma.

Yeah, I felt like a dumbass. I went around taking horrible pictures for nearly a year before someone on here (likely Mr. Rockefeller) informed me that most every digital camera has macro mode.

Now my pictures are much better, and improving every time. Koraks has a nice mushroom photography page as well:

damn you crazy man you crazy. I like how of all the blocks you put a mushroom in it and win.  You up there makes me think about when we played doom and made it our mission to beat it! it was like on a windows 98` computer too.

I wish I could identify those more but I haven't the time right now. I'm constantly glancing over to see if hopefully i have some growth but i know its to soon.

any who looks like you had fun. Nice finds.

Yeah haha i felt pretty dumb also. i was taking cell phone camera pictures the first few months i was hunting, then i got to use a digital cam my parents own. Had no idea about macro mode.
But yeah practice makes close to perfect.

say if you pick a mushroom and hold it up close to the lens, the camera will focus on the backround and blur out the mushroom, if you click macro mode, the camera will focus on the mushroom and blur out the backround
