dunking and casings...

We've all seen how dunking greatly improves the size of a flush, but I was wondering, if I'm making a casing, should I dunk the cake before crumbling and casing, or should I somehow dunk it after casing? Doesn't dunking also help initiate pinning? Most people when they dunk, they also cold-shock, but since it's a casing, you don't want to initiate pinning right away, because you want it to rebuild the mycellium network, and colonize the casing.
My guess is to dunk it while in the jars (with warm water, instead of cold water), then crumble and case, but I'd like some of your input too

my friend always cold shocks and dunks, even when he uses casings. contams hate cold.... my friend feels safer, and theres no problems, his hut casing just started to pin yesterday, and that was dunk and cold shocked, allowed to recolonize at 86d then he cold shocked it again for 24hrs and put it into his grow chamber. then happy days yesterday!!!! theres like 40 pins allready, and the serface hasnt even been phased yet, still plenty of rooom YIPPEEEEE, he'll NEVER go back to cakes, guys im serious, don't grow cakes,w ut a waste, CASINGS!!!!!!

Sounds like your friend will have a nice flush coming soon! And I guess I'll be doing the same in a few more days

I agree.. cakes are the training wheels of the supercross ryder!!
cg
PS: Your casing will rehydrate your crumbled cakes. might want to dunk in a bit of peroxide ( h2o2 ) to warn off contams before you case...
