Vermiculite off the market??

I just stopped in to my local gardening store to grab a bag of vermiculite. The lady told me it was recently taken off the market because they found aspestos (sp) in some brands. All she had was potting soil and perlite. Is this true? I haven't had a chance to check out any other store so I appologize if I'm jumping the gun. If it is true...what do I use in place of vermiculite for my substrate?

Verm was contaminated with Asbestos years ago. That just isn't the case anymore. I have no clue why some store still say this. They are mis-informed.
Read this from the FAQ : http://shroomery.org/faq/faq.php?display=faq&nr=100&catnr=1&prog=1&lang=en
I have been able to get Verm at almost every store in my area. Home Depot Lowes Walmart McLendon Hardware True Value Hardware Ace Hardware Fred Meyer My local nursery
my best advice to you is call around and ask if they have it. then go and check anyway....some stores don't realize what they sell. I asked a gal at Home Depot if they had Verm and she said no. I looked around and found a huge bag of Verm....4 square feet, a huge bag.
