Appears to be blue-green, but not growing?
    #11975453 - 02/06/10 01:32 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

A buddy has a handful of jars going well on brf, noticed one of them has what appears to be blue-green mold.  Only problem is it has not grown at all in the past 48 hours while the mycelium is doing quite well.  He's also am hard pressed to believe it's bruised since it's in between injection sites.  All other jars injected with the same syringe are fine.  He uses denatured alc to clean the needle between jars and they are kept sitting on a shelf at 75F.  This one started showing condensation around the jar just before the discoloration popped up, most of the other jars have a couple drops here and there, but not coated like this one.

It's right up against the dry verm layer, thoughts?

that doesn't appear to be blue-green to me.  maybe you're jumping too conclusions, when u should be keeping yourself busy maybe with other mycology affairs.  have you considered how you'll handle the spawning stage?  do you have secured a source for your substrate ingredients?  what ratios you'll be using for your ingredients when u prepare your substrate...?  how you'll tweak the settings of your fruiting chamber (humidity, lighting, FAE, etc.), that is if your FC is automated.  how you'll propagate the future generation of your mushroom species; will you preserve master slants or make prints?  how will you dry and preserve your finished cultivation?  how will you consume the finished, dried product?  will you want to start trading or donating your prints?? so on and so forth.

i mean, the list goes on and on when you think about mycology as a whole.  so how will you keep yourself busy today with the other affairs of mycology?  so often times, beginners tend to be near-sighted which tends to confine and restrict their research in the field.  however, i encourage you not to be this way and instead grow in your knowledge and pursuit of your vision of perfection.
mycology is nothing but a waiting game my friend.  use that down time wisely.

Wow.. tangent central   Yes I have all you've mentioned mapped out.  This thread was simply to see if people thought I should toss this jar or not and give a little background.  You write your response while in another dimension?

The point is if this is contam I want to throw the jar to ensure it doesn't spread or infect the house.  It does appear to have grown and I'm tossing the jar.
