Mixed Martial Arts
    #11971197 - 02/05/10 06:20 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Anyone into it?  I been studying for a while now, the core is Thai Boxing for striking and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for ground techniques, along with other stuff thrown in.  The professional fights are brutal, usually they are won when one person gets dominant on the ground and literally pounds the other person until he is knocked out or gets him in a submission hold and the other gives up.  Kind of like fake TV wrestling except it is real.

Yea, there is a channel here with MMA all the time, UFC often.  I didn't know if it is tomorrow.  I am starting the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu along with the Muay Thai, I noticed in MMA about 90% of the fights are won by someone either beating the fuck out of the other on the ground or submission holding him.

I love mixed martial arts. I would never fight professionally though, too much of a risk of brain damage, and it is definitely a brutal sport. But I do practice Jiu Jitsu ground moves with friends and spar with them just to keep my focus up. Never know when you would need to defend yourself these days.

if you watch a lot of MMA, you will notice that about 90% of the fights are won from the ground positions.  the instructors confirmed that also, that is why it is so important to learn the Jiu Jitsu/wrestling techniques along with Thai and other striking skills.

I've been kickboxing for 7 1/2 years now

I'm not really interested in learning new styles, but maybe one day.

Studied mixed martial arts for a good 12 years, mostly a core of Jeet Kune Do/ Shaolin Gong Fu, and Chin NA ... then went into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Dabbled in some Dim Mak, Krav Maga and Muay Thai. I'm a lazy ass though and I haven't practiced for a good 2 years so I'm for sure dull as hell. Once I stopped going to dojo and my sparring buddy moved I just sort of stopped. I still do some Yoga, Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan though.

Yeah I never took it SUPER serious like my one friend who was trying to go UFC.
I just did it for fun/hobby/learn new things/be in good shape/know how to defend myself in many ways sort of thing.
Sparring with friends is the bestest.

yea, i am just dong that for learning self-d and as exercise, and plus i met a lot of new friends there.  I did notice one thing on those two videos i posted, both of those guys who got clocked by thai kicks to the head committed the cardinal sin of letting their hands/shoulders drop and left their chin/face unprotected for a moment...just enough for that thai round kick to come whipping in and send them to the stars.

Yea I have a buddy thats trying to go UFC too. He's jacked beyond all means, but I see MMA as more of a hobby than an actual sport than trying to go pro. I'd rather train just for the fun of it and to stay in shape.

All of that mixed martial arts is bullshit. Theres nothing like getting some one in a head lock and biting their nose off.

Really?  If you know someone who knows mixed martial arts, they will have trained extensively in the guard position on the ground, and you will never get a headlock on them.  Instead, they will wail on you or break one of your limbs, MMA trains extensively in wrestling positions because that is where most fights end up.  That is, you dont know what the fuck you are talking about.
