Nasty shrooms?

Recently I've noticed some of my shrooms on certain cakes are turning dark in color (greyish to black) and losing vigor. Some are shriveling. What is happening. Currently they are in an aquarium using the perlite method. I thought it may have been too humid as some of the shrooms and cakes were beading with water and the terrarium smelled really musty. 2 questions? Were they too dry or too humid? (after I fanned em I think they got worse because they started to show some blue) too dry? Second, do the shrooms lose potency when this happens? Are they worthless? i have others in there that are growing very well, no signs of blue or shriveling. Oh yeah, on the damaged ones the caps arent opening and they should have by now. Any help?

It sounds like some of your mushrooms aborting before full maturity.
Are they pretty small ? If they stopped growing and it looks like they start to rot, its aborts. Pick them, I'm pretty sure they are ok to eat.
Some say they even more potent, I cant confirm that et
Edit: If its aborts and you don't get TOO many of them, don't worry. I think its prude common to have a small number of aborts. If the rest of your mushrooms are Ok, your setup probably Ok too.
Peace

yeah it was about a gram of 5 dried aborts, and about 5 grams of fresh aborts, actually i picked them early, it was new years and i wanted to see fireworks dammit! anyways, it worked, more than expected actually, i peaked about 4 hours after ingestion, in an unexpected spot, what a tight jam that was, but it was great! here is the cake that i harvested all the mini's from, and here are the new pins that i will pick probably in a day or 2. this is the only way i grow on cakes, if its invitro.

You can't get too humid with cakes.

Nope, they should be ok.

Sorry if I wasn't clear on this. I would not recommend to anyone eating rotting mushrooms or any food for that matter. The cup of the abort will start to rot first (in my expirience), so just pick the mushroom and srow away the cap .... Peace BC
