Don't really like shpongle, need some other music

Usually when I trip, I listen to an LTJ Bukem album that is very calm and non-vocal etc, but that album is getting a little old so I'm looking for new music.
After reading all the hype on the forum about Shpongle i decided to download some. I agree it is very trippy music and I like most of it. But most shpongle I downloaded begins with some vocals or has vocals and I really don't like vocals when trippin. Also the beat picks up a lot towards the end of the numbers.
I just want my trip music to be interesting, very calm, no vocals and in the background.
Do you guys know any music like this?

Try some Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Spiritualized, Godspeed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, or Explosions in the Sky..... so many more, but this is just a starter.

Try Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient works volume 2
Make sure it is that album your listening to. The newer Aphex is very chaotic and abstrct. I personly dont care for it.
Aphex SAW 2 should be right up your alley though. No vocals and very trippy. The album is a bit dark, but very unique. If your downloading mp3s look for shiney metal rods or blue calx

I was gonna recommend BoC and Aphex Twin for calm ambient music without many vocals. Jega has some music you may like as well, try "Geometry."

One of my all time favorite tripping songs is "Halcyon & On & On" by Orbital.

Haven't tried all the tips yet but I really do like that aphex twin album :smile:

try downloading some psy or goa trance from www.electronicscene.com(click download then drag them out of your temporary folder onto your desktop)


or branch out from trance, try some techno, go to http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/397/noah_pred.html the artist is a friend of mine

Is the earlier Spiritualized stuff fitting? All the stuff from "Ladies and Gentlemen" and "Let iT Come Down" are lyrics heavy and rockin' - great stuff, but it doesn't sound like what he wanted.

Also, look for the earlier Delerium albums (anything but Poem, Semantic Spaces or Karma) - they're all instrumental floataway music.

Yeh, shit My bad there... that was a bit of a slip. Although some of the songs i have heard in the past are alright for the purposes, they are definitely not in the majority

Ah, well like I said - I only know their shit from their last two albums (which are great) - but the title track "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are floating in space" - where it goes 'i will love you all the time...' etc. to the tune of Pachelbel's Canon in D is PURE GENIUS - it tends to make my friends cry while tripping, though ;-)

Actually now that i think of it, some of the tracks on Pure Phase might be alright. Just cant verify tho cause i havent heard it in a while

What's the name of that song?  It sounds incredible.

I don't know if anybody's recommended this artist yet, but if you're into soul at all check out Lewis Taylor.  He's got 2 CDs out from Island, and a new one on his own label, SlowReality.  Broadly, I'd call it psyechedelic soul, but really, it defies pigeonholing (much like Pink Floyd or Radiohead; both of which he's been compared to, along with Brian Wilson and Marvin Gaye).  It's some of the best music I've ever heard to shroom out to.  Especially the stuff from his 1st (self-titled) album, has tons of layers (think Beach Boys 'wall of sound'), countermelodies, tonal shifts within a given song.  Each song is like a journey (often sounding completely different by the end than it does at the beginning) and listening to a whole album is like crossing the universe and returning safely.  You can download some of his b-sides and rarities from  here.
I especially recommend: (everything!  :wink: but aside from that)
Waves (think Beach Boys on acid)
A Little Bit Tasty
Cherry Blossom

Do yourself a favour, and check him out, the sooner the better, and change your life forever!!!!
