Exactly what qualifies a 'Texas strain' as being genetically different from a mushroom in South Africa? Don't make the mistake of thinking these mushrooms evolved independently in each area. The prevailing winds on earth are global. Spores travel on the wind.

I was looking for it too without luck. By the way, it's vulgar, not vulger, assuming you meant 'dirty'.

I released the redboy 2 years ago, so it's been completely out of my control since then. It was a cross between the original 20 year old redboy spores and PR. Caps need to be selected for the red trait for perpetuating the characteristics of the original. When I released it, I had done two crosses back to the original, resulting in a 75% pure redboy. However, since that time, who knows what's been printed? The prints I sent out to people, by all reports produced fruits that were extremely potent. The ones I had sampled proved to be as well.

Yea, I've been working 18+ hours per day trying to get my cultivation dvd finished, so my time is very limited. I have my all mine and even mrs rabbits phones turned off so they won't ring while I'm recording. Sorry roadz, I'll call ya later.

Stroph, pm me an addy and I'll send you one of the few 1st generation redboy prints I still have left. They're purple-red, not red like a fire engine. It's almost a lavender color. They're just not the dark purple-black that is common. Another trait of Redboy is that it bruises green where damaged instead of blue.

Below is a pic of the 1'st generation Redboy prints. Perhaps 'red' isn't the best name, but I didn't name them. They were the name on the original 20 year old spores I revived by crossing with PR strain, so they're obviously not as red as the original, but still not the ordinary.

That's ok. Just spread them around the community. Only print the reddest ones. It's a cross with PR, so a lot of fruits will show the PR trait as dominant. Those are great mushrooms, but for 'redboy' propagation, try to select for the red color.

Do a search for pf tek in the gourmet and medicinal forum. I've grown lots of edibles on pf cakes.

Re: THE STRAIN THREAD! [Re: Radiant]
    #6820830 - 04/22/07 08:59 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

A cube IS a cube. However, PE is a distinct strain, unlike 99% of the other bullshit cubes that have been 'named' as separate strains. This is one of the reasons this thread was created. It's to keep from cluttering up the board with nonsense. If you pick a cube in one field and give it a name, then pick a cube two counties over, does that make it a separate 'strain'? Of course not. All the so-called 'strains' from the American South East are quite similar and shouldn't have ten different names. The SE Asian strains are all very similar likewise to each other. Orissa India seems to be a distinct strain. Most of the rest are just BS names. The genetics you get with multispore inoculation are what defines the genetics you get, not the name somebody gave the print or syringe.

I challenge anyone to find a microscopic or macroscopic characteristic that will manifest every time that differentiates GT from TC, or PR, or SA, or EQ, etc. There isn't any.

Cuz there's no law that says I can't pick a cube off an indoor grow and name it RR strain and sell the spores. I'm just telling it like it is, not attacking vendors. They don't care which print you buy. You don't see many experienced growers up here in this thread, and I rarely venture up this way. We all know a cube is a cube. New growers grow a crop of PR and it looks one way. Then they grow a crop of Thai and it looks totally different. Then they grow a crop of something else and it looks totally different. They now have three grows under their belt and think they know what those three 'strains' look like. However, they could have grown three grows from the same syringe, and all three would have been very different. That's the nature of mushroom genetics. Mushrooms have up to 20,000 'sexes', so the chances of getting the same genetics from any two grows using multispore inoculation are very remote indeed.

And opinions they are. They're like something else everyone has.

We need a strain thread because we were getting five to twenty strain threads started every day because people wouldn't read any of them, but simply start a new one. Now we close those so people who really want information can find it without endless, worthless discussion about strains in three or four threads per page.

I could take five different 'strains' and do a grow with each one, and then post pictures of them with a list of the five strains used. I'd bet the responses couldn't average more than 1 out of 5 correct, which are the odds if everyone simply guessed while blindfolded.

There are no cultivation parameters that are different between strains. There are no substrate parameters that are different between strains. There are no temperature parameters that are different between strains. You won't be able to identify 'strain' by looking, either with or without a microscope, penis envy and the albinos/redspore strains excepted.

Each and every strain can grow very large, or very small fruits, depending on the substrain that emerges. Each can be very potent, or inert. Each strain can produce genetics that can withstand cooler temperatures, or higher temperatures. This is what experienced growers mean when we say they're all the same. They're all the same because they're all different, even grow to grow from the same syringe.

This is why we chose to keep the strain discussion up here. It goes nowhere, but gets endlessly repeated. Have fun.
