How to powder egg shells?
    #11959288 - 02/04/10 01:29 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

My coffee grinder just died...

I have tried bashing the shells in a ziplock bag but they still are not powderised...

Does anyone have any inventive ideas?

Why would you want to?  The calcium carbonate in egg shells is not water soluble and will need much longer to become available than the life of your substrate.  Use gypsum to supply calcium, since it's water soluble and will begin to help immediately.

Got a blender?  I boil my shells to remove the protiens, then bake for about an hour at 200F to dry them. They are very easy to crumble by hand after baking- not quite powder but pretty darn fine.
