i think it's because over the decades, people have gotten increasingly more annoying. a time and a day exsisted where people were concerned about offending or inconveniencing the ones they shared quarters with, but if you are like most people, you will know that shitty roommates are much easier to come by then good ones.
that's why you always put the lease in your name, and never give them a receipt!

I doubt they have much in the way of showbiz or entertainment. Unless you wanna be a male stripper.
good place for recent college grads though. im thinking about moving there in the near future.
guess this doesnt help you out a lot OP. i dont even know why i posted. im pretty high
I agree with this, though I'm obviously biased since I live here. You could definitely live independently in Texas making $10 an hour, and even have money to save.
If you chose to have a roommate you'd be in a good financial situation for the most part.
Also I can't help but laugh at how many "moving to california" threads I've seen on here. And I love how every time there is bickering over what is better, NorCal or SoCal.

I think I should be able to make it. Like I said I have no rent or bills just what I need to get by. The agencies that find work for my friend pay for his housing so that's taken care of, it's just me and him. But I'm just worried about finding employment. Don't really care what it is I'll work fast food if necessary. I'm only gonna be out there for 13 weeks, then its back home or on the another city.

In 3 weeks i'm leaving to stay on a friends couch in venice beach, until i find a roomate/shared apt situation in LA. Im looking at Burbank as I am trying to work in the entertainment industry and there are quite a few studios in that area, and I hear the Cahuenga pass makes it easy to drive into hollywood. Maybe somewhere in Noho though.. Im gonna have to find a job quick but i have saved up some cash for the mean time. I have a car and a skateboard. Gonna buy a bunch more mimosa bark and try to make some money. On craigslist there are good prices for shared roomate situations in the areas im lookin at. So anyway im super pumped, im leaving VErmont for Cali! I love VT but am so sick of it by now, ready for virtually unchanging seasons and skating and partying a lot. Anyone know good venues in the area? I heard the echoplex was schweet..

You can make it with a $10/hr job for sure at least in san diego roomates is key though. apply for food stamps and you'll save a bunch and get something better than ramen.
Also if your blazing it up invest in a medi card that way no $100+ citations and having your shit confiscated. plus entry to cannibus clubs where you can buy 10 a g house shake and its the bomb.
As far as public transportation goes...forget it unless your in downtown its not that great. i'd suggest pitching gas money if you have a friend with a car.
Area's with cheap rent: clairemont, pacific beach, ocean beach, university city, north park, city heights, balboa, escondido, vista. i'd avoid chula vista.

thanks for all the input guys. A lot of you were very honest but also very helpful. Others are just babies. I guess the fact that my industry calls for internships and shitty pay at first, but it's not for the money, it's for the love of music and it makes me happy. If making 10 an hour makes me a 16 year old than fine. Think what you want.
The fact is my career path is very hard, I am 22 and went to college and graduated. The economy doesn't help me at all. Thank you to those who have been kind enough to tell me honestly about LA.
I was also doing some looking online at apartments and I saw some pretty nice ones out of the ghetto for 800. So I don't know why most of you are saying that studios outside of the ghetto cost 1200+
But anyway I am still taking a flight there for two weeks to go job hunting and see if I can find anything. It is better than staying here working a dead end temp job and getting hardly any real career work. So I think it is worth it to at least check it out. Do you guys have any place in mind to look for a job in the entertainment industry aside from Florida, NY, or Cali?

If your into music there is always Nashville Tennessee That place has always intrigued me, i'm not much into music (other than listening to) but it's a pretty unique place. Beautiful landscape and full of dreams
