thanks everyone that helped me out. this was my first attempt to grow shrooms. i left the jars to sit for about 1 week. after seeing no mycelium begining to grow, i gave up, thinking i did something wrong. about 1 month later, i came back, and to my surpize they were covered with mycelium!!!!! . so now i have to move them to an terrarium. do they really need that much light? how many hours do they need? i was taught in my high school biology class that mushrooms do not need light, because they get there 'energy' from decaying waste. so if they do need light, would indoor lights work, or should it be a grow lamp, or does it have to be sun light... . thanks

any light will work even christmas tree lights, mushrooms use the light only to let them know what direction they should grow towards

They also use light to tell them to start fruiting.

The light doesnt tell them which direction to start growing in!!!! Just tells them to start pinning. Gravity tells the fruit which direction to grow. Mushroomos aren't plants.

I triple dog dare you to use a clear fruiting chamber and put a light off to one side and see which way the fruits grow.

They grow up towards the sky but pins start forming on the sides.
