This is the new love in my life.

Her name is Nightstorm. She weighs over 6 kilos and has the most fucking awesome singing voice i've ever heard.

I've been learning on a pvc pipe, but that's gone in the skip now. Now it's just me and her. Sweeet!

I've been playing the pvc pipe for a couple of months, and Nightstorm for about a week. I'm getting on ok with some basic rhythms. The circular breathing is now seamless at slow speed, and i'm slowly getting it much clearer and smoother in the faster rhythms, although i'm still getting tongue tied a bit.

I downloaded a lot of stuff from the net and realise it is going to take a while to get up to a good standard. But i'm a musician anyway so that side of it is already covered.

It's a great instrument, and one that i have always thought to be the absolute bollocks. If you haven't tried, may i suggest a 32mm 1.25 inch pvc pipe from your local store. Cut it to about 120cm, and practise till it happens.

Once you get the basics on the pvc, go out and find a concert class didge and you won't believe how good it sounds. There's loads of instructional material on the internet. I got Nightstorm from www.didjshop.com they have all their didges graded and you can listen to MP3's of the concert class ones.

Very cool!
I have about 6 didge's, and have been playing for about 8 years
If its a proper termite hollowed didge, run some water from the tap through it before you play, you will notice the difference.
Also, play with the end pointing in the bath, mad deep resonance

Have you heard 'lights in a fat city'?? Very cool didgeridoo ambient music.
Also artists to look out for:
Steven Kent (Stephen?)
Dr. Didg.
Manic Organic.

If you interested, I could burn you a disc or two  :smirk:

Good luck with the circular breathing, it's not that difficult

I would think that the wood would eventually crack if you kept doing that. It sounds great as it is, i don't want to fuck it up.

I've got my nice local library working on getting a load of didge music at the moment. I'll add those to the list, thanks.

Yeah, the circular breathing isn't really the difficult bit it's the getting tongue tied when trying to play more interesting rhythms, and forgetting to breathe altogether. It seems like there's about fifty different things to do with your mouth, tongue, lungs, jaw, diaphram and lips all at the same time and as soon as you've done them you're straight into the next fifty different things. It's great fun though.

It is coming together quite well now that i have a good didge to play on though. It was a bit of a struggle with the pvc pipe. They sound fucking awful in my opinion.

My next didge mission is to find a nice intersting oak branch over in the forest to cure and hollow. There's always a load of storm damage to pick up so i won't be hurting any of the old oaks, I'll wait until they drop a suitable branch for me. Not sure how that'll go, but at least it won't cost anything. I think a nice solid oak didge could be ok, but i'll have to wait and see. It'll take most of the year to cure it so i won't know for a while.

I keep reading that title as "My new degradation" for some reason....:p
saying that, what can be more degrading than sitting on the Royal Mile during the Edinburgh Festival in a pool of your own spit?;)

Hmmm, go play for a few hours, then post a pic of the pool of spit you have accumulated  :smirk:
The aborigines leave their didges in a running stream, I run water through mine all the time, no probs.
