straw/dung question
    #1194026 - 01/05/03 08:08 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Hi !
I grew cubensis without problems, never had contamination problems or anything else.
I believe in my techniques and did this a lot of times.
But ...
The last weeks i made various attempts to grow pan. cyan.
I have two good strains. One from mushmush, the other one from Baerbel.
The rye jars were completely colonized in two weeks.

pan. cyan. needs dung or straw to fruit, therefor i prepared a lot of
sterilized bags to put the rye in them.
The bags are filled with straw or straw/dung, once with horse poo, once more
with cow manure and vermiculite and so on ...
After bringing the rye in the bags, i shaked a little bit an put them at 70F or 27C
in a dark growing box.
Now it happens : nothing ...
The mycelium stops growing, it didn't take over the straw or dung.
After one week most of the mycelium is getting dry or dissapears.
I dont have any clue what i'm doing wrong.
There are a lot of pan. cyan. teks, i tried them without success.
Does somebody made the same experience or could give me some hints ?
I will post some pictures today evening.
greets
Pasqual

What was the spawn ratio?
What was the moisture level in the dung/straw?
Did you paturise or streilize the dung/straw?

peace...

>What was the moisture level in the dung/straw?
the straw was soaked for 24 hours.
probably right. Not too wet. I will add a picture ...

>What was the spawn ratio?
hmm.. i used different teks.
1 part of colonized rye and 4 parts straw/dung ....
sometimes dried cow dung/vermiculite or straw/cow manure or horse poo.
always about 1:4
I followed Una's tek from www.mushmush.nl

Did you paturise or streilize the dung/straw?
Always sterilized in a steam pressure pot for 1 or 2 hours.

Pan Cyan requires a casing layer, I didn't notice you saying there was one added. That could be your problem, also pan cyan requires a LOT of air exchanged, compared to cubensis, to fruit.

Hi !

> Do those bags have a filter patch for air exchange??No. There is some air in the bags. Should be sufficient for a few days.
Don't you think so?

First i want to make some substrate. After that i would case it.

I will do another try with Ralphster's tek ...
