Removing from jars
    #1194453 - 01/06/03 03:51 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

This is my first time growing mushrooms. When I tried to remove from the jars, they broke in half. I continued anyway but now I'm worried. Will my mushrooms be OK?

assuming all other factors are in check then yes. to ask if your cakes are gonna be ok is an extremely vague question because a large # of factors decide that. you can break the cake down (crumble) slice it into wedges, smash it with a hammer, as long as you don't contaminate it or dry it out it should be fine.

a question I'd have to ask you is why they broke in half. did you have to tug the cake out or did it just fall apart as you were shaking it out? the mycelium forms a rather strong network once colonized and you have to force it to break apart.

If it fell apart as it was "sliding" out, I would assume that it's a bit dry. Were you forceful with it?
