You definitely won't be finding any active mushrooms in cow dung in Oregon, if that's what you're after.
Regardless, I suggest getting permission from landowners. Most of the time people don't mind you removing "dangerous mushrooms" from their property.

The only reason you would have to go at 3 AM is if you are trespassing.
And like the above poster said, not going to find much in cow dung in Oregon unless you want mostly random LBM's. Stick to the woodchips in fall.

Read this thread OP. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2229784/fpart/1/vc/1
This might inspire you to check as often as possible in Oregon pastures. Cubensis are not native to Oregon but some farmers have their tricks for producing them..

O - I get it - your status says "Stoned"
Cubes would totally grow out of Oregon dung...if it was 74 degrees F out in winter. The spores would fly in on horse back from the hawaiin jetstream...

Spraying your horses food will not hurt him, but it will also not produce mushrooms in Oregon.
Cubensis do not grow wild in that state.

Don't get too frustrated by what's going to be a certain failure. Psilocybe cubensis do not grow in Oregon unless they are cultivated indoors. Not in Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. They are a tropical species.

On a different note, I wouldn't look for any mushrooms at 3 am. They can be hard enough to find during the daylight hours.

Dude I wish i lived in the pnw. You actually live in the PNW and your looking for cubes? What you're looking for my friend is psilocybe cyanescens, it grows in the fall-early winter. Cubes don't grow in oregon, they grow farther south, a lot further south.

anyone ever go snipe hunting? we used to present gullible people with a chance to hunt the mysterious and elusive " brown reclusive snipe" and offer some vague description and the prospect of money or delicious fare for the captured (non-existent in our area) bird...give them a flashlight, whistle and a feed bag and send them out at night to blow the whistle or flash the light repeatedly (allowing us to know where they were... and slap the feed sack on the ground which would surely signal the snipe, in the middle of the rut, into an irresistible urge to run into the feed sack... killuminati? do you know how much a snipe is worth these days?
on a more serious note... this forum is, from my understanding, a place to share and develop the knowledge... a place we can dispel the commonly held myths and silly and sometimes dangerous popular notions of the uneducated masses.... to the OP... if you are this lacking in your knowledge of mycology then perhaps you would be best suited to slow down and take the time to learn... and maybe cultivate some real friends... to my best knowledge no one ever died or became seriously ill from hunting snipe... mushrooms are a different story...

Somehow I got the impression that he is immune to good advice and convinced that he'll find cubes in Oregon if he just ignores everyone who knows what they are talking about.

Predictions - A few inactive pans and maybe some coprinoids thrown in for good measure. I expect a few threads with those in asking "are these cubes". If not in spring then in Autumn.

Lol,
ditch the dung idea. It smells bad and it harbors no good mushrooms in your state.
Head to the woodchip beds buddy.
Period.
edit: Yeah people can be cruel sometimes, you just didnt understand its okay.
But really, cubes are an absolute no go for you as far as hunting. You want liberty caps and woodloving psilocybes. And spring isn't really the ideal time to hunt in the pacific northwest. Its fall. But you can give it a go, there are a handfull of spring fruiting psilocybes.

You get pissed at Americans when nationality has nothing to do with any part of this thread.
Maybe you should move your hatred of Americans back to where ever you came from.
People may be rude on here, but they are just trying to convince you that you are wrong, which you are.
Read a field guide. ANY field guide. Find one that says Psilocybe cubensis grow in Oregon? Didn't think so....

Panaeolus subbalteatus was the former name of Panaeolus cinctulus. I don't see how anyone could possibly mistake them for Psilocybe cubensis, though.

Panaoelus cinctulus (subbalteus) tends to grow more in manured lawns, rather than cow fields. They can grow in horse plop, but not as commonly as on lawns and manured mulch.
I also have never picked panaeolus, so I apologize if my facts are off.
