Basement treasure
    #1192216 - 01/05/03 11:25 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I found this in my basement, we have another one too.
It old, but the seals are all metal, and it all seems to be in good working order.
The top of it has "National" Eau Claire Wisconsin stamped on the top. There is a pressure gauge on the lid, with a little divot that turns to regulate pressure, you can see this in the 2nd pic. It looks to be quite large, I have no idea how many quarts, but its a few inches taller than a quart jar, and could hold 7 or 8 of 'em.

Think its usable? It has little wing-nut things all around the outside that fold up and screw down to hold the lid on. It even has a basket that fits inside to lift jars out.
Oh, and if you don't know by now, this is a pressure cooker.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Thats an oldie.
I think National was bought out by Presto.

I'm pretty sure that one will hold 7 quarts...but I'm not sure.
If you look on the bottom there might be a number.
Alot of the older ones have a number stamped into the bottom.

I'd get the guage tested...better safe than sorry.

good luck!

How would I go about testing the gauge?
Also, do you have any idea where I could find information on this? I have no manual to go with it.
Oh, the number on the bottom is either 39 or 99, though most likely 39

Edit: added number

Presto did buy out National.
I'd email Presto and see if they can get you some information on your pressure cooker.
You will want to look on the bottom for a number...I'm sure there is one there.

You have to take the gauge in and have it calibrated.
