Going to college
    #1191646 - 01/05/03 06:23 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I am moving to a dorm-campus when I transfer to a new college this fall.

My computer will be on their ethernet for internet (and possibly other) reasons.

What do I need to do to assure my privacy and safety?

Rumor has it that drug related sites like the shroomery are blocked.

That is unacceptable.

I hope they have novell so I can fuck with it easier.

RIP Acidic_Sloth

Probably a firewall and a virus scanner. Other than that you could use a proxy to go to sites like the shroomery.

I run off an university ethernet server - so its shared among everyone. I use norton's systemworks and internet security. It seems to be enough for sure. Nothing is blocked here at least, and I doubt they would ever block anything for you either - universities usually take a very liberal approach to use of knowledge, and try not to limit their students.
