Do you think prophecy can be valid?
    #1190870 - 01/04/03 06:00 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Do you think that the concept of prophecy, (as in having a vision of things to come) could be valid?Yes
No
Who knows?

Personally, I look at life like an ocean or river... We can always choose in which direction to swim, and we can even choose to drown or cling to the shore, but the currents will always have their say.

I think that the nature of true prophecy would be a vision of the most likeliest scenario based on predicting the currents, so to speak...

After repeated experiments, perhaps.

For those one-shot wonders:
Is the prophecy cryptic or specific?

You need a sometimes option. So yes, and no.

What if a "specific" prophecy is impossible? If you believe in free will, wouldn't theoretically anything be subject to change?

Argh! My bad.

I voted "yes" but if I had a "sometimes" option I would of voted it instead.

Think of the question re-phrased as "Can prophecy be valid sometimes?"

I'd say a specific prophecy is improbable... only one really good example of a specific prophecy would change my mind. But it would have to be VERY specific and the prophet would have to be sufficiently insulated from the predicted outcome.

As for any other non-specific prophecy... it would be impossible to tell if it were just a guess.

Shit... I am fucking stoopid. I just now checked out the name of that gif ("rocket.gif").

I always thought it was a fountain pen (and its shadow) pointing to the lower left.
Damn.
I wonder if and how that has affected people's perceptions of and reactions to my posts.

I always avoided using it solely because of it's ambiguous appearance. All the other ones seem to make sense except that one...and maybe the Toad head.

You militaristic, overly aggresive, testosterone inebriated cynic...

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
