Morning Glory
    #11906347 - 01/26/10 03:53 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I have some morning glory seeds I picked at the end of the summer, and I am planning to start an indoor grow... any advice?

They are the purple kind!

If you are keeping them indoors then the biggest concerns I can think of would be the space and lighting.

A trellis would be great to control their growth, maybe even a couple poles or something of the sort. May have to trim it once and a while too, to keep it under control.

As far as I know they need a good amount of light, so maybe some tube fluoros would be beneficial.

I live in ireland, it's overcast and the weather is generally shitty.

I watered when the soil looked dry, probably once a week. I used standard tomato fertilizer.

Soak them overnight befoire planting. I've gotten them to germinate within the first 24 hours by doing this. If you live in a dry climate, it also helps to put a damp paper towel over the container until they come up.

They grow really fast, but don't forget to provide a support structure for them to climb on. The first time I tried growing morning glory, I neglected this and most of them ended up falling over and dying. I hope you have better luck than I've had.

Dont worry they are super easy to grow.

I am currently using a "day glo" bulb (too cold outside to keep em outside) and they are happily growing with no problem

Okay, so soak them in water (or a special kind of water?) for a day before hand and keep the wet paper towel over the pot?

Plant in small GH like the ones with like 20 cells and the dome, stick peat pellets in the cells and drop one seed in each.... I assure you if seeds are less than 3 months old you will have 100% success rate  make sure you have something for them to climb as if you dont the plant will not grow as fast and will soon die or go silly, they love water too but are very susceptible to mites so if you see spotting on young leaves hit em with neem oil  in 4 weeks you will have flowers.

If you don't have a min GH just window sil em
